Description

Super sweet stunts! Build your own gumball machines and learn physics lessons in the process. A turn of a handle dispenses one gumball at a time out of the clear storage globe and down the track. The gumballs land in a collection cup and can easily and sanitarily be returned to the globe for another run. The track segments can be moved around on the base to create an almost limitless number of different gumball machines. As the gumballs roll down the track, they perform cool stunts and tricks. Stunts include a pulley lift, pendulum, funnel, trampoline, variable-slope ramp, pinball launcher, and domino slide. Each segment of the track teaches a different lesson in mechanical physics, allowing users to explore topics including simple machines, force, motion, momentum, gravity, Newton's laws, energy transfer, and more. Trial-and-error experiments teach in a fun, hands-on way: will your gumball successfully make it to the end of the track, or will you have to re-engineer your gumball machine to make it work? The kit works with standard machine-size, 16-mm (5/8-inch) gumballs and includes a small supply of gumballs to get started.

This was an arse to assemble, there's the instructions book and a QR code to take you to a video on how to assemble it in different ways. The videos are too quick for me, I had to watch the video a dozen times to get it right. Frustrating but at least I left a few strands of hair left on my husband's head 😄👌🏼. It came with a small bag of 14mm size gumballs, I wanted more so I found the 14 mm size gumballs, Double Bubble. Nice big bag just right for the gumball machine. Have to keep twisting it until a gumball comes out. But be careful that you don't break it. Twist it one way and another to get one completely out. Sometimes it works with a few twists in one direction. The rest of the things I put into a ziploc bag to keep them in one place and easy to find. 4 stars because it was challenging for me and seems like it will break easily if not cautious. In the end, it turned out well and was fun to play with. I did the pinball so my daughter is having fun and sharing everyone's gum💖👌🏼. ... show more

  • Great Learning Exercises - Difficult execution (Used Marbles instead of Gumballs)
Style: Gumball Machine Maker - English Edition
My son loves marble runs and looking at gumball machines when we pass by it at a local restaurant. Since he was two, he loved his marble runs, and weirdly called his marble runs a gumball machine (not sure why). So when I saw this, I thought it was perfect! Unfortunately, it didn't work out as well. The actual pieces are hard to configure. You're pulling or pushing the plastic pieces onto pegs while wondering if it's going to break. I studied the instructional pamphlet and kept wondering what I was doing wrong. There was a question on whether it can be used with marbles. Technically, it can and does, but some of the tricks don't work as well. That can also be a part of the lesson - using different types of "gumballs" to see what works. The marbles are too heavy for some of the tricks (or maybe we just put it together wrong). One issue we had with the domino slide - the tiny pieces just wouldn't stay on. I noticed that they were different shapes, so we played with the order of the pins but it didn't seem to help. Pinball launcher broke after the third set up. That became another lesson, looking at the pieces, figuring out where it broke and how to fix it. (We glued it back together and it works again). We use it with our marble runs now. We have it sitting on a shelf and build the marble run below it. My son loves turning the gumball machine crank, go through a few of its tricks, and have the marble drop into the marble run. At the time that we bought this, I tried to view it on youtube but kept seeing the same promotional video over and over again - so that didn't help. I do see new video uploads by Thomas Wetzel added here, which is absolutely helpful! Watch that while starting and it will help. Unfortunately, my son and I had to learn the hard way. Overall, even though it wasn't easy to put together - some plastic pieces broke and some tricks didn't work, my son loved it and we used it as a learning exercise. Why didn't some tricks work, would it work better this or that way? If we attached this here, what would happen? ... show more

  • Just spend the money for a regular one
Style: Gumball Machine Maker - English Edition
The gumballs constantly get jammed so don’t come out. When you finally unjam them and get one to come out it doesn’t stay on the track. Not tall enough to really utilize the “fun” tricks… more hassle than anything. Returning

  • The kids have a great time with this!

A lot of other reviews said that the pieces broke as they tried to build this, but I haven't had any issues. When we first opened it, my son (8) and I spent about an hour going through each of the "builds." We didn't read the directions in the booklet, but instead watched the videos and just followed along by pausing and copying what they were doing. My two boys (age 8 and 6) have continued to play with this weekly by using their own creativity to do other builds. The only thing that doesn't work well is the mechanism that turns the gumballs and drops them into the "maze." When we had the bowl filled with gumballs, it constantly jammed and caused frustration. So we removed all the gumballs and put them in a separate container. Then we just drop one in at a time and turn the little wheel to let the gumball out into the maze. It seems to work well, by just doing one at a time. Overall, this is a fun screen-free toy! ... show more

  • GREAT STEM TOY that teaches Physics in a fun new way.
Style: Gumball Machine Maker - English Edition
Where do I start, how about with the CONS. The gumballs actually taste good, so they are going to get eaten. So … Yup, that’s the cons list. Now for the PROS, This is another great science kit from Thames & Kosmos, but this time They put the GUM in FUN! Or is that the FUN in GUM … Anyways right outta the box, you can tell that there’s a lot going on, starting with this kit from the QR code on the front that takes you to a number of explanatory videos that mirror the experiments in the box, where they take you through various experiments that teach you about the different pieces in the kit, like the Smooth track, Momentum track, inclined plane, Centripetal Force funnel, etc. To the “expert set-ups” in the manual that show you how to combine the different pieces and combinations to construct almost like a gumball “Rube Goldberg” machine. And this is where the real fun begins, combining the various parts, creating different experiments, observing the actions and reactions, making adjustments, and doing it all again is where your kids are going to have a great time and get lost in it. To be honest, your kids probably won’t even get to the expert set-ups before they are off on a tangent bouncing gumballs off the trampoline, trying to land them in the funnel, where they will circle around and head off to pendulum and then to the ... Forget about handing the kids the iPad, put this in front of them, and watch their creativity soar while they have a great time learning physics in the process. ... show more

It was fun, but it certainly didn't last. The top doesn't fit together and you can't always get a gumball out. It's not very sturdy. Disappointed.
