  • Great crimper - excellent value
I bought this to crimp lugs on 6 and 8 awg wire for an rv solar project. It is recommended by Will Prowse on his solar website. Worked great and costs much less than other types of crimpers. Also, it’s small and fits in my electrical toolbox, where most other types of crimpers would need their own bag or carrying case. Dead simple to use and makes a solid crimp - just use the heaviest hammer you have and set on a solid surface. ... show more

  • Great crimper, works well
It's simple and it's effective. I use a 4 pound sledge hammer and it takes just a couple of whacks. The copper is crimped well and your fitting sports an new plus symbol. I pulled to see if I could remove the cable on the 2 AWG wire I just crimped, and it's very firmly connected. I can feel the change in resistance when the lug is well seated, and it can be heard, as well. Very nice device. ... show more

  • Well built and inexpensive.
Great product and judging it by exactly what it is it worked amazing. If you have just a few of these bigger lugs to do this will work well. However, if you have to do a dozen or more or looking for a long term solution this probably isn't the right product. After about the 4th one I was wondering if it would have been better to get a style since you need 3 to 4 hands to get everything lined up and operate this unit. ... show more

  • Solid crimps
Great product works well just need to have the room. A hydraulic hand crimper is still needed in tight places or replacing on wire that can’t be removed.

  • Works as advertised. Seems sturdy.
Crimps well. Have just used it once on 10 GA cable lugs. Performed as expected.

  • The Best Tool Ever
This hammer lug crimping tool was awesome to use. I had previously used the plier type and had issues with getting a good crimp with larger gauge wire. I uses this to crimp 4 AWG wire and it worked flawlessly each time. The crimps are secure. This hammer lug tool is the definitely work the money. My only complaint was that at one point the little spring fell out while I was making a crimp but it was easy to put back in and worked fine after that. ... show more

  • Works great
I could have bought a more expensive one but this work's really well. Holds tight crimp, you cover it with shrink wrap , looks just like all the rest. And takes up less storage space

  • RV wiring upgrade. Great little tool! Works perfect!!
Bought this to make my own cables for an RV wiring upgrade. Worth every penny. It's smaller than you'd expect, but quite tough. I've made multiple cables using 4/0 welding wire, 2 awg welding wire, 1awg thhn and 6 awg stranded wire. This crimper handled them all perfectly. Pro tips: Use good copper lugs appropriate for the gauge wire you're crimping. Find a firm surface, concrete or steel will do. Use a small sledge, 2-4 lbs, but one that you can still operate comfortably with one hand. Hold the lug snug to the wire with one hand and hammer with the other hand, at least for the first tap or two. Start with a decent tap, just to seat the crimper in the lug so when you whack it with the next strikes it won't slip. 4-5 good whacks (for 4/0, less for small wire), you'll hear the sound change as you compact that wire and turn it into essentially solid metal at the crimp. When that sound changes, you're crimped! No adjustments needed between different wire sizes, it's self adjusting. I also added solder to my connections. I found this worked best: flux the copper wire and the inside of the lug beforehand, then crimp as described, then heat it up and add solder (some of my larger lugs had no holes in the lug, other than the big one the wire goes in, so I drilled a 1/8" or so hole in the lug to add the solder thru. Worked great, but honestly, you don't even need to solder these connections. The crimper makes them that strong! Recommend heat shrink wrap, the good thick kind with glue inside. Strengthens the connections, makes it waterproof and looks professional ... show more
