We have a magnetic knife holder on our fridge and the kids are ALWAYS dropping knives between the fridge and counter. I ordered the Enbar Telescoping Magnetic Pickup Tool so I can stop having to move the fridge each time. Unlike previous magnetic pickup tools I have use, this one is nicely sized. The handle, while not as wide as a hammer handle, lets me get a good grip on it and has indentations so, if you hand gets sweaty, it won't slip. The telescoping shaft is wider as well. The magnet itself is almost 1.5 inches wide and is magnetic on the bottom as well as the sides so it's very versatile and you don't have to worry about being precise with it. It is pretty strong too. The only issue I have is that the telescoping handle is a bit stiff and requires a bit of force to get it to slide out. An older user might have some issues getting it open. If you take a bit of graphite powder and rub it on the extendable areas it will help a bit. You can also use a WD spray, but that can get messy. Like all telescoping handles, when fully extended it isn't as solid feeling, but you won't be used for striking anything so it isn't an issue in this case. Overall, this is a great tool to have around the house. It will allow you to grab things that have fallen behind furniture or if you can't bend down for whatever reason. If you drop a small earring on the carpet, no worries. Loose something metal in the grass or garden, no worries! Definitely worth the $14 in my opinion. ... show more

I drop things. Small screws, big ones, washers, etc. When I do, I got to find it and bend over. That's if I can see it. This magnet rod is a blessing. I have a squeezable pick-up tool that helps a lot. But when there are small metal screws, or things on my work bench that get pushed off to the floor, I usually hear them hit before they get to their hiding spot. This magnet will even the field when that happens now. It is definitely 40 inches in length. The magnet is not so strong that if it passes by a metal chair leg it gets diverted. It's a strong magnet. But once I find what I've lost it doesn't take a strong arm to get it to release. The length of this collapsible wand is awesome. There will be no extra effort in bending over to make this work. It's well made, collapses easily and couldn't be easier to operate. Keep it close. You're going to need it ! ... show more

I already own several telescoping magnetic pickup tools of various sizes and lengths. Over the years, I have found them very useful. The standout feature of this product is its length and lifting capacity. None of my current pickup tools can handle anything approaching 35 pounds. The claim of being able to lift 35 pounds is achievable if the shape and size of the item are optimal for lifting. Tests on various sizes and shapes of large metal objects gave mixed results. It works best when the surface is flat and the weight is evenly distributed. Regardless, this pickup tool is more capable than anything I own.
