I used ratchet straps in place of the straps that came with the pulley system because the ratchet straps are tested and rated for a higher weight load of 500lb per strap, well exceeding the 50 limit of each pulley in the system. I also used 5 additional washer spacers in addition to the one included with the hardware so that I could minimize any risk of hitting plumbing in the wall. I thought this product was very high quality and I am both an engineer and a gear nerd. I chose this one specifically because the bracket and pulley design allows the item to be stored closer to the rafters so it is up and out of the way (my garage ceiling is low). And I was not disappointed. I read some other reviews and planned to buy my own straps, clasps and rope to improve the system, but I thought the straps and rope provided were good quality and I experienced no issues. I also think that some people may misunderstand (in my opinion) that the “rope lock” on the pulley is just for holding the item up until you can securely cleat the rope off with the provided cleat. It is not intended to hold the item 24/7. One caveat is that my board is not very heavy. One person can easily carry it with one hand. If I was trying to hang a 100 lb or 150 lb item, it might be a very different story. ... show more

Easy to install, easy to use, great directions. The directions even come with a QR code for a YouTube video to help with installation. Great buy and great storage for my kayak!

    • Securely does the job
A bit tricky to install, just be patient and deliberate. Instructions are excellent, it's just a bit tricky to get right. Brackets, pulleys, and rope all high quality. Works perfectly and smoothly to lift and lower my 50 lb kayak to garage ceiling above head level. Highly recommend.

    • Nice system for fitting hanging kayak into tight space, poor quality straps
Decided to hang our kayak above the garage door. Had a little less than 2 feet of space between garage ceiling and the garage door when it was open and the kayak was about 14" deep. Was looking for a pulley system that allowed the kayak to be pulled up pretty close to the ceiling so it would not interfere with the garage door operation. The rope and pulley system allow for the kayak to be pulled up pretty close to the ceiling. The only issue was the poor quality straps that go around the kayak and attach to the pulleys. They used plastic clasps which kept slipping the longer the kayak hung there so about every other day, it would lower enough so it would sway when the garage door was opened. Replaced the straps around the kayak with better quality straps using metal clasps and have not had any issues since with kayak not staying high and tight against the garage ceiling. ... show more

Rly amazing pully system to hang kayaks snuggly against the ceiling. I have a 10ft ceiling and there's plenty of clearance for my garage door. Highly recommend.

Overall these are good hoists. If you are handy with a drill, installation should be relatively easy. A couple of improvements that I would happily pay a bit more for are, pulleys with actual bearings and a higher quality rope. Perhaps the manufacturer would also consider a kit with a ratcheting hand crank for raising and lowering. Its a bit heavy for my wife to operate and I will be adding a hand crank myself for. ... show more
