  • Just a simple review and comparison
I am not a writer obviously and I do not review products often. I am a personal trainer with a few certifications not a doctor 😂. Please forgive me if I don’t use proper formatting or grammar. I just wanted to help with some of my experience with the bc-1500. Mostly the software side that everyone complained about. When I first looked into buying the BC-1500 I noticed a lot of complaints about pairing and software. There weren’t many reviews on the accuracy or comparison. Setting up the scale is super easy if you are patient enough to read and use a little common sense. When you download the software (only download the healthy edge light installer no extra drivers or anything else) it is a “zip” file and must be extracted (extraction is automatic and needs no additional software). Once you open up the folder containing the files most people will click on the “healthy edge” software installer. This is the wrong thing to do. There is a second installer needed first in the folder. The sql database installer must be used first and it will start a chain of installers for you. The database, the program healthy edge and the ANT driver will all be installed. Do not install the ANT usb device until after all software is loaded. Restart your system and follow the pairing instructions. Tanita did not include good instructions on setup so hopefully my install instructions will help a little. The analyzer…… I used four units (smart scales and body composition analyzers) to compare as well as a caliper technique. I used a garmin s2, inbody h20n, inbody rd-901 and the bc-1500 pro. I wanted to keep them under $600 for home use. After comparing all of them the bc-1500 produced the most consistent numbers as well closest accuracy to caliper and water tests. The software offers segmental analysis to provide targeted information. Overall this unit was better at everything and unless you are going to spend over 5k I don’t think you’ll find anything better. ... show more

  • Detailed review of Tanita BC-1500
Since I could not find a good review of Tanita weighing scale, I am trying to provide a detailed neutral review. Pros: 1. Although mostly plastic but overall looks and feels like a good weighing scale, Made in Japan. 2. Provides many details including but not limited to weight, % age body fat, visceral fat %, muscle mass, bone mass, water%, physique scale, calorie intake, etc 3. Once set up, easily connects to computer with Ant stick Cons: 1. I bought this machine, like many others to review my body fat % along with other numbers. It was quite variable (as shown on the graph) though became slightly more consistent over time. Range was 9.6-13.8 Segmental body fat fluctuations are even more wide. 2. Also when I was looking for Tanita scales showing muscle quality on Tanita website, this was one of the scale, which was supposed to show muscle quality but it did not. 3. The data is tranferred to myTanita website, if you first set up an account on the website and then only place that information in your user profile in Healthedge lite app on desktop. 4. Only other place the data can be transferred is to Garmin MyConnect. But it is extremely cumbersome. First you need to buy an older model of Garmin watch. I had three Garmin watches but none of them could connect to this weighing scale. So I bought an older model of Garmin watch, Garmin FR60. Since this is an old watch, it's functionality as Garmin watch is limited but even transferring data through the watch is quite painful as it does not Sync easily with Garmin Express. The most surprising point was that some of the data transferred via watch was very different from the data transferred direct from weighing scale to computer. My visceral body fat from watch was only 1% whereas from the desktop records, it was between 5-6%. So my physique rating according to data transferred via watch was 8 or 9 whereas from the desktop app, it was 5. So was metabolic age, which was 12 according to the data from the watch whereas from the desktop, it was 18-20 (Second screenshot showing data transmitted through the watch, which was obviously wrong). I could not understand the reason for discrepancy as the watch is supposed to be a conduit only to transfer the data from the weighing scale to the internet platform. 5. Another problem while using the Garmin Ant stick was that Tanita Ant stick stopped working. Also Garmin watch data did not transfer to the myTanita website. 6. Many people have already complained that since the weighing has to be close to the computer, it can not be placed in your bathroom, unless you place a laptop with attached Ant+ stick in the bathroom 7. Another disadvantage related to the last one is that you have to turn on the computer every time to take weight. You can not simply hop on the scale and see your weight. 8. If you want to transfer the data in a more easy manner, you should spend another $129.99 to buy Ant to WiFi Network Adapter II. Since I did not buy it, I can not comment on the usefulness of this device. 9. Data can not stored in an easy .pdf format from the Heathedge lite app. Overall I would express a more user friendly weighing scale with better accuracy after spending $440. ... show more
