I find eye ointments very hard to find in stores, and was very happy to find on Amazon this one by Systane, whose eye drops I already use for my severely dry eyes. All eye ointments are messy, which is why they should be used at night before bed. Also, if you use it at night, your eyes have all night to absorb the ointment. I wake up after using this ointment, wipe away the excess, and my eyes feel great! I live in an arid climate, and this product really helps my eyes a lot. As stipulated, use while sleeping only, because it's thick and makes your eye sight very blurry. Evidently my eyes don't stay closed tightly while sleeping and it causes them to tear up as I sleep. That causes the tears to dry and develop a crust every morning between my upper and lower eye lids. The first morning I woke up after applying, my eyes did not have any dried tears or scratchy feeling. No other eye drops I have used ever accomplished this. Suffer from dry eyes. I use drops several times a day for this issue. Was asked to use an ointment at night. The brand recommended to me was double the price of these, but since they are the same brand as my eye drops, I decided to try this one. You get two in the package. They are easy to apply. BUT, they WORK!! My eyes feel great in the morning. The ointment feels a little greasy on the outside of the lid and under the eye, but my face felt great the next morning, as well. I prefer the ointment at night when I sleep, it keeps my eye coated. I recently started to get a shot in my eye every 4-6 weeks bc of macular degeneration. I use the drops during the day, I purchased the gel, drops & ointment. The Systane brand is what the dr gave me when I left the office. I've had my 2nd round of shots, the Systane is very soothing & has almost an oil type feel which lubricates longer & better than other otc products. I also make sure to get "PF= preservative free" which is what my opthalmogist gave me. It's very soothing. Again, the ointment works great for overnight keeping my eye lubricated. With so many recent recalls of eyecare products, I've been sticking to only brands from the large ophthalmologic pharmaceutical firms, of which Systane is one. It works well and I'm confident it is safe to use regularly for my extreme dry eyes. I have only one complaint: there is such a small amount in this tiny tube that it only lasts for 2-3 days, and the product is very expensive for the simple ingredients. However, safety comes first. Also, I've never had a problem with a Systane tube lid not opening when turned, as I have experienced multiple times with my other trusted brand.
