My 2005.5 Audi S4 has bi-xenon headlights that also have the auto leveling feature and also swivel to some degree when the steering wheel is turned. About 5 years ago the driver's side headlight started to flicker randomly but it rarely happened. Brought it to Audi to have it checked out (and I brought it to them at least 3 times later for this same problem). Each time, I would be told that they could not replicate the problem nor were there any codes showing on their diagnostic system - all this, despite presenting photographic and high quality videos of the problem. I should also note that even when the car was still under warranty, Paul Miller Audi still gave me the same BS reasons. When the warranty ran out, they continued to give me those BS reasons BUT also suggested that, should I choose so and depending on what they find, I could have a bulb replaced ($$$), an igniter/control module replaced ($$$$), or auto level sensor replaced ($$$$),etc. all at cost to me (of course!). As time passed, it progressively got worse. It would flicker and turn off completely (also affecting the fog lights) as soon as the lights are turned on, even when the car was just stationary. Because Audi would not fix it and I was not willing to fork over close to a thousand dollars, I've been dealing with this problem all throughout by turning the headlight switch off and then on again. Initially, doing this worked fine until I got home. But soon, I've had to do this multiple times until I just gave up and let the headlight turn off - travelling with only one headlight functioning and the fog lamps. Can you imagine how dangerous it would be for the headlight and fog lamps to blink, flicker and turn off randomly at highway speeds? Not to mention, it would also confuse on-coming drivers as well as the drivers in front of me, and pedestrians waiting to cross the street. A few months ago, I received a letter in the mail. It was to inform me that there is a class action lawsuit vs Volkswagen of America/Audi of America because apparently, the same problems I was experiencing on my car was also being experienced by a significant number of other people as well. Essentially, the settlement provided for two things: reimbursement for repairs (at a certified Audi facility) made before the settlement came into effect OR if documentation was provided, repairs were to be provided (bulb AND/OR the control module) by a certified Audi facility. So off I go to Paul Miller Audi. I showed them the class action and settlement documents. They did not honor it and told me I don't qualify for that. Furthermore, the service advisor also insisted that the settlement is ONLY for reimbursement purposes and not for free repairs of vehicles as described in the class action lawsuit. Frustrated, I went to another dealership - Audi Meadowlands this time. Showed them all the documents and stuff and like Paul Miller Audi, they told me essentially, there was nothing they could do for me as per the settlement. So really, what these two big and popular Audi dealerships in NJ are saying is that the Class Action Lawsuit and Settlement regarding the flickering headlight issue of bi-xenon (HID)-equipped vehicles is completely useless. But in fairness to Audi Meadowlands, they did a $120 diagnostic and unlike Paul Miller Audi, they pinpointed the problem to the bulb. And so, taking matters into my own hands, the saga of my malfunctioning headlight brought me here to Amazon. I chose these because of the high number of positive reviews. I was naturally skeptical because of the low price but figured, at this point, I should probably give it a fair try. What was I to lose (other than the money I spent to buy these)? I've been to two "premier" Audi dealerships and was just disappointed each and every time. After verifying from other auto parts online stores about fitment and compatibility, I proceeded to buy a pair of these Sylvania D1S HID bulbs here from Amazon. I looked at the websites of ECS and JHM. These same Sylvania D1S HID bulbs are priced waaaay more than Amazon. Evidently, changing the headlight bulbs on a car like mine is not easy. Either the entire front end comes out or some of the stuff behind the headlights under the hood needs to be moved out of the way to make it possible to reach in and replace the bulbs. A local but knowledgeable mechanic installed these at a fraction of the cost of what the dealerships wanted. I tested the car with the new Sylvania D1S HID bulbs and I couldn't be happier. They work and work good. Excellent value for the money. It is just as bright as the OEM ones that came in my S4. These are made in Germany and says "oem" on the box. Time will tell if these will last and that will be another review for me to write. I'm assuming you are considering these bulbs because you own a vehicle that has bi-xenon/HID headlights and either need a replacement for a bad bulb or want to upgrade to something different. You are probably very familiar with the hue of the existing headlights of your car right now. Chances are, these Sylvania D1S HID bulbs have the same hue as your headlights. These are not the blindingly white, bluish, or purple-ish HIDs that you see in some tuner/enthusiast vehicles. I can tell you that these are pretty much spot on for OEM hue (which isn't really bad). In other words, if you want to upgrade your HID hue to something other than what you pretty much have right now, look elsewhere. ... show more

    • Quality Item At An Absolutely Unbeatable Price
I have a 2007 Cadillac Escalade, and this Sylvania D1S HID works perfectly for it. This Sylvania HID is made in Germany, as was the original one I took out, and Sylvania may well be the OEM for Cadillac given that the units were labeled near identically. However, though it may change, the color temperature of this HID at the time of installation was not the same as the HID I didn't replace. At the time of installation, the light from this HID is not quite as white as the light from the HID I didn't replace. But the difference is not great. If it was I would replace the other one immediately, but I've decided to just wait until it goes out. Also, one thing I was confused about at first was this HID's mounting clip is not the same as the original HID's mounting clip. HOWEVER, that's because new HIDs only come with the mounting clip base, and you must unsnap the mounting clip from your original HID's base, and install it on the new HID's base. I mention this because I wish I had run across that information somewhere so I would have avoided the initial confusion. And, by the way, to replace ONE HID the Cadillac dealer wanted $297.56 for the HID, $179.92 for labor, and $22.32 for tax, for a grand total of $499.80! Through Amazon I paid a total of $43.39, and a little over an hour of my time. That's a substantial savings, so it was well worth the effort.     • Replacement for OEM HID light
Used to replace the low beam high energy discharge bulbs on my Town and Country. The clips are a pain and require a small screwdriver and a bit of fussing to remove, but they fit perfectly and work great. The original bulbs lasted over seven years, so these should last until my next car. I gave to four stars instead of five because the price is outrageous - but that the OEM way. ... show more

Perfect fit. And cleaner/brighter update to the factory halogens. PRO TIP: Unplug master headlight assembly connector first. Then remove with bulb with the connector wire still attached (6 to 5pm position) but install without it connected (way easier). Plug in new bulb power cable, cover, and overall assembly socket. Poof.     • Sylvania D1S High Intensity Discharge (HID) Bulb Worked Perfectly in 2005 Chrysler 300C
After reviewing how to replace this I found several people who claimed dealer got paid about $200 per bulb to service this. Although I have never done this proceedure, it was very simple, took less than 20 mins per side (I work slow), and requires no special tools. I did wear rubber gloves while performing replacement to protect bulb from any contact with skin oils (which severely degrades life of bulb). Since you should always replace these in pairs, I did both sides. Also, several reports about counterfit Phillips HID bulbs caused me to select the Sylvania product, plus, Sylvania has a German company which was exact OEM replacement. These bulbs are DOT approved. Due to safety reasons, ALWAYS use US Dept of Transportation (DOT) approved products (only the 4700k color is DOT approved for highway use). Deviations can open you up to law suits & fines if involved in auto accident and not using DOT approved lights (ie. those **really** blue lights) -- and they will win law suit because you voided mfgr original approved design.
