  • This is not a Toy!
Size: SW200DL
I took my time picking out a microscope, this is the best buy. It has the clarity that I wanted, the objectives are professional grade meetings international DIN standards. I went to a pond, got a sample and could clearly see the spiral chloroplasts in spirogyra, and swimming protozoans. The lighting is fantastic. But a box of slides while you're at it, because this microscope is slide worthy. ... show more

  • You just can't beat an optical system.
Size: SW200DL
I have done a lot of research before I finally decided to give this a try. I need the real stuff, something better than those 30 dollars “digital” ones for inspecting some samples from work but I don’t want to spend thousands of dollars for the professional lab equipment either. Pros: It works. It’s solid. And it lights up from both above and bottom so it allowed me to inspect non-translucent parts. Image quality is reasonably good. Cons: The high power 40x object lens blocks the light source from above and it had a super close focus distance which combined made this lens pretty much useless. The only way I can see is by shining a flashlight from the side using one hand. Overall this thing will blow those digital ones out of the picture. And at this price point, I’ll even say it’s well made. If you need a real microscope like the one you used at middle school and you’re spending your own money I’ll say go for it. ... show more

  • Working great
The microscope I picked was used - like new condition. I was looking to get either new or like new. I am glad for the quality of this microscope even though it was not new. I did have some issues with the battery area. I had to take off the bottom and remove the battery pack holder because the black lead from the pack was pinched and causing a short in the connection. After removing the pack and reconnecting the batteries power the light well. I do kind of wish I would have spent the extra to get a dual light version of this microscope but I figure I can hold a flashlight and it does similar. I am very pleased with build quality. I know with careful use that I can make this microscope last a long time. ... show more

  • Extremely impressed with image quality.
Size: SW200DL
Bought this microscope to view things that my kids and I found out in the yard. The lowest power objective with the over head lighting produces some stunning images. The detail is really hard to describe, we even saw a tiny living insect buried among a bit of foxtail grass. Definitely get the version with overhead and beneath stage lighting. A few downsides to mention: It's a manual stage, so it's a bit tricky to move specimens around. Also, the endstop for the focuser is pretty difficult to set, so you have to be extremely careful to not collide the high power objective with the slides. The collimator is flush with the stage, so I suspect it will be very easy to scratch it, if you are not careful. Also, I wish it had a iris style aperture (at this price point probably is not possible) Overall: For the price, this microscope is an incredible value. The images this produces has left all members of the family really impressed and excited to look at more things! It's a solid microscope that I definitely recommend buying. ... show more

Size: SW200DL
I read a lot of reviews on a lot of microscopes and had a budget so I was so happy that this is such great quality, easy to use and has turned out to overall be just what we needed for my son as he's been doing his experiments for his 9th grade Biology course this year (homeschool). I definitely recommend it! ... show more

  • If you need a decent microscope for education or office..
Size: SW200DL
I bought this to examine sheep poop for worms. It does that job perfectly. At the price I’m not going broke if I drop it or if a sheep runs off with it and loses it somewhere in the pasture. The features are easy to use, you can buy a video cam or eye piece to use your cell phone camera if you need pictures. I do this for record keeping as sheep buyers are a picky lot. It does a nice job and is not junky. It will service my needs for the 25 or so year that I expect it to last. ... show more
