  • Great hooks. Original style Susan Bates inline hooks.
These are like the original Susan Bates hooks with the pointier top and the deep throat. These hooks do not have a tendency to split the yarn and I don't have nearly as many slipped stitches with these as I do with Boye hooks. I have been crocheting for over 40 years and have used several different brands and types of crochet hooks without really paying attention; until now. I purchased a set of ergonomic hooks for my granddaughter, but the hook part was a disappointment. It was difficult to get the hook into some of the tighter stitches and she was frustrated with some of her stitches slipping off and having to remove all the current stitch and start it again. I had her try one of these Susan Bates Silvalume hooks, I had just got them in, and wanted to see if it helped her. She had been excited about the "new style" of crochet hooks instead of using the "granny hooks" as she called them, until she actually started using them. The glamour faded quickly. She now won't use those and is always using my Susan Bates hooks. The throat on these hooks is nice and deep without being difficult to work with and the neck is straight rather than tapered. I personally find it's easier for me to maintain gauge with an inline hook. My speed when working with these hooks is a lot faster; I'm not having to redo as many stitches or trying to work the hook into a stitch with a round head. I have heard that Susan Bates redesigned these hooks a couple years back but returned to this design when their customer base protested loudly at the inferior product. I'm certainly glad they did. If you are looking to purchase a set of Susan Bates hooks, be sure to look closely at the top of the hook and make sure it's pointy shaped so you don't wind up with some of those horrid unpopular hooks they produced a couple years ago. I had read that the "old" good hooks were getting hard to find, but I lucked out and found these on Amazon and snagged them right away. Maybe they're not so hard to find anymore since they went back to the old design, but I feel fortunate that I was able to get a set of the better hooks. The set contains F,G,H,I J and K size hooks. I am going to purchase one additional hook, the 7mm, to complete my set. I think those are the ones I use most of the time. They come in a plastic pouch which is great for storing them in and the pouch lists the sizes on the front in both letters and mm. The hooks I received were all smooth with absolutely no jagged edges. I've seen in other reviews where people were complaining about getting some really rough hooks, but it looks like most of them were a couple years ago and were probably getting the redesigned hooks. I'm really happy with my new set of Susan Bates Silvalume Crochet hooks and wouldn't hesitate to purchase another set. ... show more

  • My Favorites
I've been crocheting for a very long time and discovered Susan Bates hooks early on. I'm not much for the designer type of crochet hooks and find these to be durable and economical for me. Some aluminum hooks have a hook basically shaped like a bird's beak with a gentle curve into the hook. The Susan Bates hooks have a very distinct and sharp angle, allowing the hook to grab the thread and complete a stitch without slipping. I ordered these hooks (not just one package but two) because I'm forever putting my work down and losing the hook I was working with. If you've every been a fan of handwork, I'm sure you understand the frustration of spending so much time searching for the tool you need to do it with. Plus, if I have more than one project in progress, I like to leave the hook I'm using with the item. I did have a problem with this order. A single hook was missing from one of the packages. I contacted Amazon and they set up a replacement order with the instructions that I was to return the original two packages before a set date. The new merchandise arrived in plenty of time and I took the first items to my local UPS facility and returned them. I thought it was funny that I should have to wait in line for EVER for the woman in front of me to get her order handled, mostly because she couldn't make up her mind how fast she wanted it shipped. I, on the other hand, put the return merchandise in the pouch the replacement hooks had arrived in, taped it shut and added the shipping label Amazon provided on the outside. I handed the clerk my package, she scanned it, and I walked out. Easy-peasy. I still lose my crochet hook on occasion, but at least I know where I can quickly get another one. ... show more

  • Bates Crochet Hook Set
This brand of hooks glide effortlessly through the yarn, minimizing hand strain, which is particularly important for someone like me who crochets for hours at a time. The materials used feel durable and high-quality. I recommend.

  • Great hooks
I like these. Apparently there is a debate about inline vs tapered hooks and I seem to be inline. I find it easier to get into the spaces with these hooks. The ends are a little pointier and if I can’t get in like that I can use the hook side to get into the space.

  • Best crochet hooks
These are by far the best crochet hooks on the market that are affordable. I know there are hooks out there that cost upwards of 30-40 dollars for a package and I’m sure they’re wonderful but these cost me just over 8 bucks and they’re WONDERFUL. Susan Bates every time.

  • Quality crochet hooks
Great crochet hooks. Don't bend, are easy to hold, and are slim. My friends used them when I taught them to crochet.

  • Nice hooks in consistent sizes
I took a beginner class in crochet, which is where I learned that American crochet hook sizes are not consistent. (All "J" hooks are not the same dimension.") These hooks convert to the European sizes in a consistent way. And they are very nice quality.

  • Great quality, pretty colors, good value
Wanted to upgrade my crochet hooks to a tapered and more pointy shape, did so thanks to a Christmas gift card lol Was using inline bamboo hooks, but i left like they dragged & i wasn't going as fast as i had with a previous hooks. Great quality, good hand feel, doesn't feel too light or too heavy. Speed is way up, love how the aluminum glides through all kinds of yarn, pointed head is great to get into the stitches fast and easy ... show more
