  • worksgood
this tool works well it took a couple of tries but i got the broken part out, with out putting a hole in the shower

  • It was either this, or remodel the bath.
A simple project turned into a nightmare when I went to replace a showerpic massage head. After replacing the head I noticed a huge loss in pressure; a little research and I found my showerhead arm was corroded and cracked, blasting the inside of my walls with water. Tried to unscrew the shower arm and it snapped right off. Tried everything to get it out with the 1" hole I had to work with to no avail. Found this tool on Amazon and it was a lifesaver. Squirted a little muratic acid on the broken fitting first to loosen up corrosion, and it came right out. Great tool. ... show more

  • Didn't work for me.
After reading the reviews that stated this worked for removing a shower arm nipple I purchased this for that same problem. It simply did not work. While the wrench would "catch" after first positioning it in the nipple, it would then break loose and spin freely. I then got a Wheeler Rex 87050 Nipple Chuck. It worked perfectly the first time. It costs more, but it's worth it. Wheeler Rex 87050 Nipple Chuck ... show more

  • Skip the other brands out there and do it right the first time...
Earlier I purchased another brand that came with three tools, in different sizes, all in one package. Once I had them in hand, the first thing I noticed is that they were nice looking, fully chromed, and in three sizes. Great, standing above the tub, I slipped the tool into the wall and tried to get the tool to bite into the broken metal. No luck. Each time I tried it would just slip off. At some point in my struggles the tool slipped out of my hands and landed on the edge of my cast iron tub. Taking with it a one inch piece of porcelain. To make a long story short it didn't not work at all and gave me a nice chip in my tub for my effort. The way this tool is fully chromed made it so the splines would not bite into the broken piece of shower arm and makes for a slippery item with sweaty hands. Back to the hardware store for a refund, then back here to Amazon to buy this Superior Tools product I knew I should had purchased to begin with. Two days after ordering from Amazon I had my tool in hand. First thing I noticed is that the "camming" action of the tool was better and more pronounced, the splines that would bite into the broken piece were sharper, and that horrible chrome the previous unknown brand had was no where to be found. Another 5 minutes and I had the broken piece of shower arm in my hand and out of the wall. If you find that you need to buy an internal pipe wrench, don't waste your time with junk. Go directly with Superior Tools here at Amazon and get the job done without any issues. ... show more

  • Worked.....sort of.
I needed to remove the remnant of a shower arm that had snapped off. The shower arm was the original, more than 30 years old, and apparently the threads had been 'cemented' instead of just wrapped with plumbers teflon tape. Prior to receiving the extractor tool, I used muriatic acid (as another user mentioned) to dissolve the corrosion and to try to loosen the plumbers cement. Then I sprayed it with WD-40. The tool didn't unscrew the shower arm segment, but after several attempts turning, it did mangle it enough so that I was able to finally grab and remove it with a needle-nosed pliers. Now I think I should be proactive and replace the shower arm in our second bathroom before it too snaps off. ... show more

  • Amazon solved my problem!
My shower arm snapped off while I was taking a shower over a week ago. It disconnected from the elbow pipe. Since then I have been taking tub baths and searching for a way to get the old stuck pipe thread out of the elbow. I could not afford a plumber and I am stubborn about doing things myself. I tried multiple solutions, conferred many times with the local hardware store but to no avail. They gave me an "Easy Out", first in the wrong size, and then another in the right size. Unfortunately, it was tapered and the section of the "Easy Out" that was wide enough for the job would not catch because of the elbow being short(aka dead end!!). After *4* trips to the hardware store and lots of gasoline I was frustrated and more resolved to fixing this myself than ever. I looked at how-to videos online with no luck. Then I went on Amazon, thinking maybe they have an 'easy out' that doesn't taper at the end. And that is when I discovered this little gem!! I had it shipped one day shipping, desperate for a shower by now and sick of looking at my de-paneled posterior wall and the two tiles I had removed from the shower wall. The 1/2 inch internal pipe wrench looked too small, but as you position and turn it the action part grabs hold. My pipe was really stuck so it took a few tries and lots of girlie muscle, but it came out! I literally jumped for joy and told the internal pipe wrench "you are my favorite tool ever!!" This is a well made sturdy tool and in my opinion, the best way to go for this type of problem.. I told a male neighbor about it and he'd never heard of it. I plan to show it to my local hardware store. THANK YOU, AMAZON!! I really CAN do it myself!! :) ... show more

  • Worked great, then broke to great travail
This tool worked perfectly for one or two applications. Recently though, I was trying to extract a broken nipple from a drop ear and the tool's only moving part broke off inside, depositing itself way down the pipe I was working on - greatly complicating the job. In principle, it's a great tool. However I would recommend ordering a higher quality version of this. Superior has never been known for superior tools. ... show more

  • Brilliant design
Great tool. The middle wheel pops up when you turn the base with a wrench. Just a little constant pressure and the broken threaded remains twisted right out.
