Description

Grade: medium color: Maroon grain side - Maroon back side the Maroon discs are used for cleaning and finishing on all metals for removal of light rust, oxides and coatings. Combines with the quick "1/2 turn-on, 1/2 turn-off" Disc fastening system measures 2 inch (50.8mm) diameter maximum operating speed: 25,000 RPM each box contains 25 discs fits 3M Roloc pads 05539. For best results use with sun Gold 99081 pad. The Sunrise family of surface conditioning discs are a top choice for metalworking for cleaning, finishing, blending and debarring applications.

I KNOW that “3M” (Scotch), “VSM”, Klingspor”, or perhaps other well-known brands will perform. Every time I try an “off brand”, with regard specifically to “Roloc” scuffing discs, I am disappointed. I keep hoping to find a better price in another brand, and consistently find what I already knew… Pay three times the money for ten times the performance. Don’t be cheap, you will waste your money. Buy the good ones, and treat them well, as an investment, and you will be satisfied. With that said, allow me to digress: I purchased a Milwaukee M12, battery-powered 90 degree die grinder to supplement my pneumatic one, when my airlines were otherwise tied up, to use as a secondary one. It QUICKLY became my primary one. I have used it as my primary die grinder for aroun two years, now! It should be used with 2.0 or 3.0 amp/hour batteries (not the standard 1.5 a/h ones) because it consumes the smaller-capacity ones quickly. If you are using these 2” discs, I absolutely recommend trying this die grinder. It has a slightly less continuous service capacity than pneumatic (if it were a welder, a 90% duty-cycle), but is vastly more versatile, and easy to articulate because of the absence of the airline! If you want to push the 90% “duty-cycle”, I’ve found that using two 3 a/h batteries will overheat, requiring a brief rest. Using a rotation of three 2 a/h batteries causes the exhaustion of the battery before overheating. The fancy, higher-capacity batteries and this tool, by Milwaukee AND the name-brand pads you know and trust will make for a pleasurable grinding experience. ... show more

    • Pretty rough for "Fine" grade.

These are well made and better than the super cheap knockoffs. However even the fine grade is pretty rough and seem to be geared more towards removal of heavy paint and corrosion than more delicate tasks such as gasket removal from steel or aluminum engine components. I'm sure I'll use them up eventually for something or another. However I think I'll stick with 3M for most of my needs. ... show more

I use these on my auto restoration projects and find them to be very good. Price is competitive for a consumable product. I tend to stay with medium or finer as the coarse are really abrasive and remove a good bit of metal.

For the price, you can't complain too much. They last about half as long as the 3M equivalent. Price probably doesn't balance out in the end. They are decent for occasional use, but not good enough for a professional shop environment. I personally wouldn't buy them again but I'm rebuilding lots of engines and use them a lot. Product seems to be well made for what it is. Advertised as very fine but is relatively coarse. I would compare this to 120 or so grit. I called manufacturer to get an idea of a corresponding grit they were not helpful. Was given another number and left a message there. My call was not returned. I would say this would be okay for removing light rust or paint. Listing these as very fine would seem to indicate these some sort of finishing product. These are not. Returned item. ... show more

i build steel guitars and handle a lot of aluminum which needs to be surface conditioned before polishing to mirror finish. the first one i tried was a total flop as the abrasive material peeled off like there was no tomorrow, and this was on aluminum! i doubt seriously i got a couple of minutes of use. this proves the point you get what you pay for as name branded disks can be used on many pieces before giving up the ghost. to add insult to injury, it took two weeks to get these so it is not worth the wait. i never heard of sungold before so it was worth a try at least but this will be the one and only try. besides, i can get better disk in days not weeks!!! ... show more

    • Harder than expected

For the price, these are just fine. They are, however, a little stiff and don't conform as well as the Harbor Freight equivalents. The discs are much harder and feel more like a grinding wheel than a scouring pad. This makes them quite a bit more durable, but not as good at getting in tight spaces or polishing uneven surfaces. They also seem to get gummed up faster than the Harbor Freight ones. Overall, I'll keep them and use them when appropriate, but won't purchase again. ... show more

Excellent for fine cleanup without removing material. My main use is automotive cleanup during removal/installation and welding mock-ups and cleanup.
