  • Great camera, good documentation and great customer support
Style: 4K
Love this camera! Bought it without being sure that the PTZ features would work with an older NVR from 2015 (ION-NVR-8), an NVR that doesn't list if and or what version of ONVIF that it supports. Turns out the PTZ controls on the NVR work with no problem for this camera. The web interfaces for the ION NVR and this camera are very similar, so much that it seems the ION NVR and this camera are re-labled products from the same manufacturer. Hard to know since many IP cameras and NVR's these days are from China. Anyway, it is totally compatible with my ION NVR and every feature on the camera can be controlled via the NVR's web interface. Documentation from the Sunba is good enough, although it seems a little disjointed as an add-hoc collection of information, but it's good enough if you are already a little familiar with IP cameras. Customer support is very good. I emailed with a couple of questions and received prompt and helpful replies. The image quality of the camera is very good, and the 20x zoom extremely powerful, much more than is really needed for a back-yard setup. The night-time illumination via infared LED's is excellent. There are two ranges for the LED's that are automatically controlled, a short range and an extended range that turn on when the lens is zoomed about half way. Didn't have any problems at all getting this configured and working with a POE+ injector over about 120 feet of cat5e. The camera is described as 'mini' but is fairly bulky and heavy compared to IP bullet type cameras. Sunba does offer a pendant type mount but it's expensive and takes a long time to get it so I bought some metal pieces at Home Depot and fabricated my own mount. There are a hand-full of connectors that come out of the camera including the CAT5 POE+ connector and some others. If you are powering it via POE+ and not using a microphone, then you won't need the other connectors. I mounted a small water-proof box next to the camera to keep the unused connectors out of the weather. ... show more

  • When it works, it's great. It doesn't work most of the time
Style: 4K
So I got this thinking it covered all of the bases I wanted for a PTZ camera that I was going to put up. From an external housing and mounting perspective it's built great, no complaints. Bonus points to the video head being able to fully rotate 360deg continuously. The night vision (when it works) is what you'd expect from a starlight sensor, so it's way ahead of non-starlight sensors. Considering the area it covers (looking out over a large backyard). It's great. Optical zoom is pretty good, and you do get the 20x ish zoom you would expect. It does have a bit of noise that does reverberate when it moves, so it's not completely silent. The problems start coming up when you start messing with it. The web interface effectively doesn't work on anything but Internet Explorer with an ActiveX plugin. This isn't too abnormal for security cameras, but it is something that is getting old fast, and I'm getting to the point where it's increasingly unacceptable. Configuration is fairly straight forward till you realize there's two systems at play. The web interface controls the camera overall, but portions of the PTZ is controlled independently, and is only accessible via Preset location "95", which pops up (on the video stream) an on screen menu to make additional changes to that, like set the home location. That is *SUPER* obnoxious, I get why it was likely done that way, but it's extremely poor user experience. So if those were my only issues this likely would get an overall 3 star with a weak recommendation. However now that I've got this up and in place, I'm finding the video stream to be exceptionally poor. It cuts out a lot on it's own, and when more than one device connects to it it basically gets overloaded (so if you have an NVR via rtsp and then connect to it from say tinycam pro to move it around to check things, you run the risk of getting lost connection to either or both). I've tried adjusting the video settings to make it easier for the onboard encoding to handle multiple streams, but to no useful avail. I have run into lots of times trying to move the camera with PTZ (via ONVIF) gets confused and lost and the video cuts out and camera just spins in circles till it catches up or gets power cycled. I've also seen (not regularly at least) where the day filter on the camera doesn't move and you get a ping glow to the whole night vision view. There's nothing here that screams, to me, that this unit is inherently broken or flawed. Like I said, when it works, it works great. This seems to be some issue more inherent in the system. I've attempted to contact Sunba tech support about the camera, to ask for guidance or commentary and their website is impossible to use to submit a question, and when I finally did I haven't heard any response in two weeks. Add that all up, and I honestly wish I could return the camera, but I'm beyond my return window, and it's bad enough I don't want to re-sell it because there's no way that someone is going to have a good time with this camera if their use case is even remotely like mine (and I'd argue my use case isn't terribly extreme given how many cameras I have running, or how many I've played with). The camera came so close to being what I wanted, I'm actually quite disappointed. ... show more

  • Don't let the price fool you.
Style: 4K
This is my first PTZ.I looked at many different cameras and the people at Sunba quickly answered my questions. So I took a leap and bought this one and I'm happy I did. The small size and it's crystal clear image. Wow! This has good IR and handles focusing even in dark areas. I set it up as a test in my garage and I was reading really fine print on items at the far end without any problems. In just a few minutes I had it connected to a Hikvision NVR and was using that to control the camera. Fantastic. This unit is quiet too. And of course the price, which takes it right over the top in my book. ****** FOLLOW UP ******* I've had this camera for more than a month. The picture I added gives you the idea of how clear the picture really is, even at night. The sign in the image is about 1/3 mile away, maybe a bit further, but I still can't get over how clear it is. I will add that I can easily read a license plate at the intersection about 500-700 feet away. I would post those images, but I hope you understand why I don't. This camera still gets 5 stars from me. ******* ANOTHER FOLLOW UP ******* I just had the opportunity to contact the people at Sunba for an issue I was having with this camera. Jeffery was quick to respond and offered detailed instructions on resolving the issue. We traded a couple of emails on another question I had and again, detailed instructions and a solution. They have a great camera and have proved they have great customer service. If you are thinking about purchasing this type of camera, get Sunba. You will be happy you did. ... show more
