  • Amazing
Color: Black
Amazingly small for the sound it puts out. I swear it sounds as good as the 12" sub on my old home theater system.

  • Great sound for music, Ok for movies
Color: Black
I consider myself an audiophile and have a well-equipped home theater setup with an AV receiver and Dolby Atmos 5.1.4 sound. However, I also have a TV mounted in my great room where I have a pool table. To enhance the sound quality in that area, I connected a Sonos Beam to the TV, but I noticed that the soundbar alone lacked sufficient bass. Therefore, I decided to purchase the Sonos Sub 4, Sonos’s top-of-the-line subwoofer, to assess its impact on my overall sound quality and compare it to my home theater SVS PB2000 Pro. The setup process was challenging. I recently installed a new Wi-Fi mesh system, and after numerous attempts to connect the sub to the app, I discovered that most Sonos products require a solid 2.4 GHz signal. Mesh systems can cause issues because your phone needs to be on the same frequency as the speakers. I suspect that my phone kept switching between 2.4 and 5 GHz because whenever I added the Sub, the app would display no connection. However, after accessing my router settings and splitting the signals, I was able to successfully set up the Sonos sub. The Sonos Sub 4 offers limited features. You can adjust the volume of the bass, but that’s about it. The sound quality of the sub is clear and can produce a deep, rumbling bass during certain movie scenes. I tested some intense bass scenes, and the sub never failed to deliver, but it also didn’t quite reach the same low, rumbling depths as my home theater sub. Testing the sub with music was a more enjoyable experience. The bass was crystal clear and punchy, especially when listening to heavy bass songs. If you choose to purchase Sonos, you’re limited to two subwoofer options: the Sub 4 and the Sub mini. At the time of writing this review, the Sub 4 costs $800, which is quite expensive. Considering that there are many other soundbar combinations with subwoofers that offer comparable features at a more affordable price, the Sonos Sub 4 may not be the most cost-effective choice. However, if you’re a fan of Sonos and appreciate its versatility in home audio, the Sub 4 is a must-have for a home theater setup. This wireless subwoofer may not offer the same level of sound quality as a 10” ported sub connected to an AV receiver, but it provides a decent tradeoff for its wireless convenience and ability to easily connect to multiple Sonos speaker systems. If you’re considering a Sonos soundbar for your home theater setup, this subwoofer is definitely worth considering. ... show more

  • Slots in perfectly with the Arc, improves both music and home theater
Color: White
Wow, this sub packs a punch. I got this new gen 4 Sub to go with an Arc, and it fits in perfectly. I'm liking the matte white color, too - it blends into the walls better than the glossy version. The Arc was already good to start with, or so I thought. After plugging in the Sub, I realized how much was missing. Certainly, when listening to music, the added bass is obvious. But, when watching a movie, there's a subtle bit of added depth to all sounds, not just on the deep end. And, it's amazing how simple it is to get everything dialed in just right. All that's needed is to run the test sound pattern for a few minutes, and Sonos does it all. One thing to note, though, the Sub doesn't work with some older devices. My Play 3's and 5 (from around 2010) wouldn't work. ... show more

  • Not what I expected but still good
Color: Black
I had a Era 100 stereo pair and a sub mini in my Family Room and it sounds great. I have another Era 100 Stereo pair in my Living Room with a sub mini, but although good, the bass was lacking. So since you can't add another sub mini to a pre-existing stereo pair, I made a third Era 100 stereo pair w/ a sub mini and put the sub mini in the living room and had two subs going, giving me the sound I wanted. At the time I didn't want to spend $800 for a Gen 3 sub woofer and didn't like the piano black glossy finish. Two sub minis w/out tax is $858, so I didn't mind spending a little more for the two sub minis over the one Gen 3, granted i did have to purchase another Era 100 to make it work. Then there was the announcement of the Gen 4 coming out, with a matte finish. Prior to the Sub 4 being announced and released I had been asking myself, "What if? what if? So I got the Gen 4 thinking I could always return it. I set it up in my Living Room replacing one of the sub minis in the Era 100 stereo pair. I think I was expecting too much because I had read the Gen 3 was so powerful and some users even had to turn the bass down into the negative, so I really had high expectations for this sub woofer. I knew the output was the same as the Gen 3, just an updated processer and a matte finish. I played different tracks from Rap, pop, classical, country, dance mixes and although I noticed more bass from the Gen 4, I was like , "Meh". After True Play tuning it a few times , even advanced True Play I was a little disappointed. I tested the different music on the Gen 4 for about an hour and was left under-whelmed. I wasn't going to return this thing because 1. the box was too big, didn't want to go through the hassle and 2. it wasn't disappointing enough to warrant a return. Ultimately I ended up moving it to my Family Room and took the sub mini that was in my Family Room and put it in my Living Room. The two sub minis in my Living Room sound great, they were made for each other, compared to the Gen 4 and sub mini together. The Gen 4 sounds better in the Family room with the Era 100's and that is where I 'll leave it. All of my Sonos speakers are for music only as I already have a dedicated Home Theater. I've read the Gen 3, 4 are particularly better sounding with cinema because it's a ported speaker, whereas the sub mini is better for music because it's sealed. IDK, other than the shape the sub mini and Gen 4 are similar in respect because they both have facing sub woofers. One is boxy shaped the other is cylindrical in shape. All in all, my expectations were way too high, but in the long run I think I will enjoy the Gen 4. ... show more
