Description

Product description 6" x 9" Grand Touring Series 3-way Car Speakers Peak: 600 watts per pair / 300 watts each RMS: 200 watts per pair / 100 watts each Plus One cone material Mylar/titanium composite dome tweeters Frequency response: 45-21,000 Hz 2 ohms impedance Sensitivity: 94 dB Why JBL Sound? For more than 60 years, JBL products have been bringing home the impact and excitement of the world's best recording studios, movie theaters and concert venues. Now, JBL engineers are creating these world-class listening experiences in the car. Thanks to advanced technology developed in the professional arena, JBL mobile products simply sound better than the competition. High output, superb bass response, long life and smooth response are all things you can expect from any speaker that wears the JBL badge. So join enthusiasts who know audio, and don't settle for anything but JBL in your vehicle. Bring the sound of the show on the road.Listen LoudThe last thing you want to worry about is the quality of your speakers. We understand. All new JBL mobile products have to go through nearly 500 hours of environmental testing. We put them under temperatures fluctuating between -35° C and +90° C with up to 90 percent air humidity for more than 200 hours. We expose speakers to UV light for more than 150 hours to simulate a mounting location on a car's rear deck. We even shake things up, as all of our new mobile audio products have to pass extensive vibration testing before we release them for production. We've made unparalleled efforts to ensure the best possible quality so that you can listen long and loud when you crank up a JBL speaker.Edge-Driven, Mylar-Titanium Super TweeterThe JBL GTO939 uses a 1/2-inch (12-millimeter) Mylar-titanium (My-Ti) super tweeter with a large voice coil--much like a voice coil found in high-end home audio speakers. The benefit of the Mylar and titanium blend in making a tweeter is that it is lightweight and has remarkable strength. At the same time, its large voice coil increases power handling and reduces distortion at high output levels. This tweeter design also helps create more seamless integration with the woofer. The GTO939 's tweeter is even adjustable, so you can modify it to optimize the sound. The result? Crystal-clear, extended high frequencies for true, high-end, audiophile-quality performance.Edge-Driven, Mylar-Titanium TweeterFor extra smooth and detailed sound, the JBL GTO939 speakers use a one- inch (25-millimeter), Mylar-titanium (My-Ti). The addition of this dedicated driver allows the GTO938s to deliver rich sound through the midrange frequencies where most of the vocals in music can be found. This extra detail in the midrange, paired with the super tweeter and woofer, means that the GTO938s deliver true, audiophile-quality performance worthy of even the best home speaker.Built-in Crossover NetworksTypical entry level mobile loudspeakers use low performance bass blockers to keep bass from going to the tweeter. Well, the JBL GTO939 is not your typical entry-level loudspeaker. By using a built-in crossover network with advanced high and low pass filters, the GTO939 creates a smooth transition between the woofer and tweeter. The result? Midrange vocals that sound so natural and lifelike you think you the artist were right in the car with you.Bass that BoomsPlus One ConeThe JBL GTO939 uses a 6 X 9 woofer with the patent-pending JBL Plus One cone technology. Plus One technology gives the GTO939 more cone surface than competing models of the same size--up to 30 percent more in many cases. With a larger cone area, the GTO939 speakers provide higher efficiency and better bass response. Add a low-Q woofer design for higher bass output from the typical mounting location and 300-watt peak power handling, and the GTO939 will really get your car booming.Powerful PerformanceTrue 4-Ohm TopologyLow- impedance speaker voice coils extract more power from your amp for more powerful performance than high-impedance coils do. JBL GTO939 speakers use a lower-impedance voice coil than a typical 4-ohm speaker to extract the most power possible from all amplifiers engineered to drive loads of 4 ohms or less. And the GTO939 is compatible with both aftermarket head units and factory-installed systems. Since many factory-installed systems incorporate 2-ohm speakers and include amplifiers designed to drive 2-ohm loads, replacing those reduced-impedance speakers with a typical 4-ohm model will reduce the power output from the amplifier. For the most powerful performance, the GTO939 makes the best use of any amplifier by providing an optimum 2-ohm load.An Easy InstallNo special tools neededDoing it yourself? JBL makes installing the GTO939 speakers a breeze. Designed as replacements for factory-installed OEM speakers, they easily install into nearly any factory-built 6 X 9 location without any special tools or additional modifications. If you are upgrading an older set of aftermarket speakers, the GTO938's easy installation makes replacement simple as well. You'll be listening to your new JBL speakers in no time at all.

  • Incredible Clarity, and Surprisingly Powerful Bass!
Color: black
Edit: I've now had these speakers installed for almost 15 months, and they still sound incredible. I now have a Pioneer AVH-X2800BS with the EQ set on flat, going into a Clarion EQS-746 for EQ and pre-amp up to 7 volts, going into my Polk PA 330. This combo is working very well, as live tracks truly sound like being at the concert. The bass that comes out of these speakers blows my mind. At times, it sounds like there's a 10" subwoofer hitting the low notes with precision, but it's just these two 6x9's (I have my rears turned off). These speakers are everything you'd want in a car stereo! * * * * I've been using these for just over two months now. I have them set up with a Kenwood HD-458U head unit (http://amzn.to/1Myu4fc) and a Polk PA 330 (http://amzn.to/1MmyfHB) amp. The amplifier sends 100W RMS x 2, at 2 ohms, which is exactly the max these loudspeakers recommend. Although my head unit only has basic controls (bass, mid, treble, bass boost), I have still tweaked it to sound very good with these speakers. I am running only these two speakers in my truck - I've turned off the rear speakers. If you really want to get the most out of these speakers, I'd suggest getting a head unit with at least a 5-band parametric EQ, if not even a 10-band EQ. That'll be my next upgrade, since my last head unit had a 5-band, and I was able to get even better results (with other speakers) with the sound tune. Sound Characteristics: Bass - These speakers are strong enough to produce almost the amount of bass you'd get from a 10" subwoofer. I used to load my vehicles up with subwoofers, but I now prefer SQ over SPL, and these full-range speakers are perfect for that. You'll get rich mid-bass and deep bass frequencies form these JBL's - enough to fill the cab of any car. Mids - The mids are delicious, as shown when listening to Adele Live at Royal Albert Hall (http://amzn.to/1MmyH8K) or Jason Mraz Live: Tonight Not Again (http://amzn.to/1MmyJNQ). The singers' voices just float up to your ears, as if you're sitting in the front row. Vocal tones are rich and sonorous, although it really depends on how the source was recorded. Some tracks on Ed Sheeran's + (http://amzn.to/20KJZNJ) make his voice sound a bit tinny, like it was recorded in a small barrel. These instances are by and large the exception, however. Highs - A few reviewers mentioned setting the switch on the speakers to -3dB, but after testing, I kept mine on 0dB. I like the extra highs, and when tuned properly, it doesn't induce the scratching in my left ear that my tinnitus will activate when I listen to things too loudly. The highs in these speakers are so clear and pronounced, that even though my speaker location is in the doors right next to the floor, the sound stage is lifted all the way up to my head. This makes for some fantastic listening. A True Loudspeaker My last setup was an active crossover 3-way setup with Polk DB6501 components, and amped (50W RMS x 2) Pyramid W64 6.5" bass drivers, driven by an Alpine CDA-9835 (27W RMS x 4) in 3-way mode. Although the SQ was better in that setup, the JBL GTO938's are enjoyable in a different way. They add vibrancy to the music with their full-range capability. These are truly an all-in-one solution for car audio, and if you're willing to turn off the rear speakers and settle for just these loudspeakers up front (amped, of course), you'll be very happy! ... show more

  • Bang for the Buck!
Color: black
So I have been leasing vehicles every two years for the last 20 years or so. I usually order the top of the line sound system. I suppose the manufacturers have focused on improving the bass response at the cost of mids and highs over the last few years to suit the changing tastes of their customers. It is to the point where the side view mirrors bounce when you're cranking - which is great - I dig jamming! My latest ride is a 2015 Ram 1500 without the excellent optional Alpine sound system which for whatever reason was unavailable. The stock sound is still quite good, and plays loud so I am guessing their is some power in the stock amp, Unfortunately, the bass just over powers all the other frequencies no matter how you set the equalizer. Since I lease, I don't want to throw a bunch of cash at the problem. The no-brainer move was to perform a simple speaker swap on the cheap. After reading reviews and checking specs I was looking for the biggest blow-out deal available and the $56 JBL GTO 938's from Amazon were the perfect ticket for the front doors. These are the top of the line 6x9 triaxial car speaker from JBL, but are one generation away from their newest offering (GTO 939), so they are heavily discounted. Note, many of the other "series 8" JBL's in other sizes are still available on their own website, so rest assured you're not getting chopped liver. The swap was simple and took about 2 hours with no glitches. I suggest using the speaker adapters from Metra, (72-6514 for me.) By the way, the factory speakers are lightweight coaxials with a paper domed tweeter. Also, YouTube is a great resource for installation. Anyway, these speakers clearly and cohesively balance and extend the mid's and high's. The depth, articulation and tightness of the bass also improved dramatically. Next up were the factory 3.5" dash speakers which are straight up lightweight single paper cone junk. I went with JL Audio C2-350x from Amazon and Metra connectors from Crutchfield. They were a little pricier than I expected, especially when adding the connectors, but the installation was so simple and fast I couldn't resist. The resulting sharper imaging increases immediacy while reducing the compression in the highs. So for about $130 I am now in same league as the Alpine equipped Ram. Next up is replacing the rear door 6x9's to improve bass cohesiveness. I noticed the stock front door speakers played much louder than the stock rear door speakers indicating a difference in supplied power. I am considering coaxial JBL 928's since I don't need anymore mid and high extension and they too are being blown-out. The beauty of the whole scheme is I can easily pull the speakers when I turn in my car and if I don't I'm out only $200. Well worth the investment! By the way, I have a diverse taste in music but mainly dig on guitar jams. Some of my favs include metal like Slayer, jam bands like Gov't Mule, classic rock like Van Halen and Skynyrd, Motown (cause I' from the "D"), Progressive Rock like Dream Theater, hot chick singers like Amy Whinehouse, jazz like Theonius Monk. There is plenty more but sorry, no Hip Hop or Rap. Also, I have been into home hi-fi gear for years and currently have about 10 grand invested in a constantly evolving home theater which I use to play concert DVD's and stream hi-res audio and video. ... show more

  • Good quality 6x9's
Color: black
They are sweet, good quality. The back side is the best looking I've seen. Too bad that part doesn't show. They sound good, but I can't really tell much difference from my pioneers I replaced with them. I like that they are 3 ohm cause they take just a little more power from the dash speakers that run parallel with the front door speakers. Also they all say they won't fit in the front door of newer Dodge Rams. But they are not too deep which is why most others won't fit. Just slightly too fat because of how they are built on the back side. I made minor modifications to the door mounts and I got them in. I like them. ... show more
