This little thing is absolute joy, and I haven't been able to put it down since I opened the box. I'd most certainly classify it as a toy, however. You can't sync it with anything else, the looping is fairly constrained, the range of sounds is relatively small, and it *only* runs on batteries. This is a toy? I actually really like this thing. You cannot plug it into your outlet, you must use batteries. That's too bad. It does have audio out but no midi out. Also too bad. Still though, this thing is a hell of a lot of fun to play. The quality of the audio that comes out of it is definitely noteworthy. You are going to be up all night jamming and grooving!     • Why should toys be just for kids?
It’s a toy but it’s also a joy. Tap out a beat, add some bass. It’s easy to re-record and mess around. As a mediocre drummer the Stylophone Beat makes me sound like I know what I’m doing. The price is great and the features are appropriate for that price point. A version with more sounds and recording capabilities would be nice but this is fun and easy. ... show more

    • It's pretty cool for the price
I wish they would've put some better samples of acoustic and maybe linn drum too. I don't like the beatbox option at all, toss that out. But for my intended purposes it works as an upgrade to a metronome click whilst jamming on guitar on the couch. Instructions are kinda hard to understand, so watch the YouTube video n save yourself time! All n all, I still think it's cool for what it is, and worth the purchase. You CAN definitely put some cool beats together with a synth bass line on the go. I think that's the best thing ever to help inspire ideas, or just keep you occupied on a long car ride! .....or both lol. Great on batteries too! ... show more

    • Easy to loose hours with this.
It's simple, it's straightforward, anyone can learn to jam with it, the possibilities seem limitless. I honestly love this thing. Pick it up throw on some headphones and you can create and endless collage of beats and rhythms. I hooked it into my pedalboard, gave it some really spacy reverb with a bit of modulation & it honestly sounded about as good as some of my favorite records. I feel like this is an essential gadget for every musician or anyone who just wants to have fun in a musical way. ... show more

Bought for my 8yo for christmas. With just a bit of direction on how the record feature works, he was well on his way to writing some really gnarly stuff. I hope to get a recording of him playing around with it. Maybe mix it into an actual song. The variety of tones on it are delightful and just different enough to keep the creativity flowing. ... show more
