don't know the exact purpose of gasket BUT when you replace the friction wheel on tractor there is a stamped sheet metal cover that gets a lot of wear as the one i replaced someone did not have that gasket present.

Super simple swap when you have the old one off. Just align to the clutch disc during reassembly like when you took it off. I wasn't sure if mine needed replacement but for the price when you already have it apart might as well
