  • Wired and Wireless Rival 3 feel different
Color: Black Size: Wireless Style: Rival 3
I have both the wired and wireless version and there are some noticeable differences. - The left and right buttons on the wireless have a bassier sound and a nicer feel. - The side buttons on the wireless are lighter and this caused me to accidentally press them on a few occasions. - The scroll wheel on the wired is quieter, stiffer, and has a more rubbery glide, though scrolling up at times caused my finger to slip off because of the the stiffness. The scroll wheel on the wireless is lighter, with a slightly scratchier sound and feel (downgrade). Summary - I prefer the wireless, though the scroll wheel and side buttons on the wired have a more premium feel. EDIT: After just 3 months the mouse stopped being recognized, and now all I have is a broken mouse with a blinking scroll wheel. Currently undergoing RMA. ... show more

  • Solid mouse, chews through batteries too fast.
Color: Black Size: Wireless Style: Rival 3
The mouse is solid, both the mouse's dongle and bluetooth work fine and it feels good to use. It chews through batteries at a crazy rate. I'm replacing them every week or so with normal Duracells. I'm not getting anywhere near the claimed 400 hours. I've gone through 20 AAAs in less than two months. The timeout before the mouse powers down and requires a click to wake is adjustable but I can't lower it anymore. If I raise it the battery life drops to just a few days. I really want to like this mouse but this battery life is horrible. ... show more

  • Faulty LOD sensor, poor cable, meh shape.
Color: Black Size: Wired Style: Prime+
My LOD sensor on my Prime+ has no function at all. Changing settings in the software or via the LED menu on the bottom doesn't affect the LOD at all. Assuming that it IS supposed to do something, that suggests it's faulty, if it isn't false marketing. The cable feels like an old Logitech cable with how rigid it is, and I'm pretty sure it was intended for a wireless charging cable more than an actual wired cable candidate. The shape isn't great for my hand size at 21/11. The ridge on the left side above the thumb, and the particular curve of the thumb indent make it very hard to fingertip. I find it impossible to grip with my hand size and grip style. Palm works sort of, but it's very tight and I don't like playing with palm grip. So yeah, a big bummer on this one. If you do get this, don't get the Prime+. Just go with the base model, as you'll probably get a faulty LOD sensor and an LED menu that does nothing useful. ... show more

  • Kinda sorta close to a wireless EC-2 with amazing feeling optical switches
Color: Black Size: Wireless Style: Prime
Pros: - Good sensor, feels accurate and responsive - INCREDIBLE feeling optical switches for 1 and 2! - USB Type-C charging port - Good battery life - Includes wireless adapter for the charging cable/dongle - Pretty good stock feet (with tiger ices already available) - Shape feels like a slightly less refined EC-2, but still alright - Coating is good, but I wish it were a a little smoother (I think it would get more grip that way) - Really solid feeling construction Cons: - Side buttons are tiny - Scroll wheel is kind of hard to press consistently (but still scrolls well) - Weight should go down at least 10g, I feel like ~70g would feel fantastic with this mouse Thoughts: Have you ever really wanted to use a product because of a single really, really good feature it has? For me, it's the optical switches on this mouse. No joke, these new optical switches feel so phenomenal, that I'm willing to put up with my gripes just to feel the clicks. Looking at their design on steelseries' website, they look like they should maintain their click feel forever, but only time will tell on that. If you don't know how they work, basically you press down on the button to actuate a spring that's held in place by a neodymium magnet that snaps down and breaks the laser beam to register a click. They do really feel light, but snappy. The shape is very reminiscent of a Zowie EC-2, with the main difference being that the curves aren't quite as defined. It's not awful, but I think that those curves would have made a little bit of a better shape. The coating for the body is okay, but I think it would have been more grippy if it were a little more fine. I always feel a little worried that the mouse is going to slip out of my hand. It sort of has a dry feeling to it if that makes any sense. The surface is vastly better than their rubberized sides in my opinion. The side buttons are teeny tiny for no reason. They really should be at least twice the size and stick out a little more. I feel like I'm going out of my way to hit them compared to other mice. The scroll wheel also feels a little hard to consistently press, but I think it's something that could be gotten used to. I think that with the combination of the slightly off EC-2 shape, dry feeling surface, and 80g weight, it can feel heavier than it is sometimes. I really think this mouse could have benefited greatly from being a little lighter. I imagine the wired versions feel pretty good, but I just love not slapping around a cable. Conclusion: Steelseries is finally moving in the right direction with their mice. They've always boasted about really gimmicky stuff as being some new revolutionary thing they've invented, but this time they're on to something with their OM switches. If these can feel as good from click 1 to click 100 million as they claim, then the design absolutely needs to be copied by other brands. As they feel right now, I actually prefer these optical switches to any mechanical switch I've tried. If this changes, I'll be sure to note approximately when they started to fade and under how much use. I don't think I'd say that this can 100% be the wireless EC-2 you're looking for, but it is a solid wireless ergo entry into the market. ... show more

  • Button click issue
Color: Black Size: Wired Style: Rival 3
I received my wired Steelseries Rival 3 and right out of the box, the left button didn't seem right. It "creaked" when I pressed it. The right button was a smooth, fast click. I ordered a replacement and after a few days of using it, the same thing happened where the left button developed a "creak" sound when pressing it, even lightly. The right and left buttons sound completely different when pressed. Before this mouse, I tried the Piktech gaming mouse and went through two of those in a week due to issues with the scroll wheel. So far these under $30 mice seem to have issues. I guess you get what you pay for. I'm not a hardcore gamer or need a fancy rgb mouse, I just want one that feels good in hand and clicks/scrolls without issues. This mouse is comfortable and the programmable rgb is kind of neat, I'll give it that. But, the mouse click issue is already driving me crazy after only a few days of use. ... show more
