Buying a musical instrument online is really frustrating. When you can't hear or feel it then it's hard to tell if it's going to be good or not so you pay your money and take your chances. I bought two tongue drums. The same price. Both had good reviews. But they were miles apart in quality. I thought the first one I got sounded good but there were a couple of kind of dead sounding notes and one note sounded out of tune. It was big and heavy and hard to handle. Then this one came...what a difference!! The tone on this tongue drum is awesome and no dead notes or out of tune notes. It's thinner and easier to handle and play and the rope around the side was already on and it looks great.( compared to the other drum which had an ill fitting yarn that wouldn't stay in place). Thank goodness for the amazon return policy! If you are looking for a 15 note quality drum in this price range, I don't think you could do any better than this one. It sounds great, looks great, and is a real pleasure to play. Highly recommended!!! ... show more

The tongue drum has a beautiful resonant key. The center one is slightly off. However, it has a variety of notes. The book does not explain itself well, at all. My drum had D on the bottom of it, which I assume means it is in the key of D Major. I read music. This book is interesting Greek. It does not suggest positioning of the drum and ways to learn the notes. It does not outright say anything about the dotted notes. It assumes you know these melodies so you will know the timing. Please work on making the book clearer. But, I am learning songs and I can use normal music to play on the drum. Overall, I am satisfied with the product for the price. ... show more

The media could not be loaded. Review from a seasoned musician (guitar) with over 50 years experience with numerous videos on YouTube. I am extremely impressed with the quality of this 14” Steel Tongue Drum from Hopwell. All the tongues on the drum I received are exactly on key (no flats or sharps) and are very resonant with excellent sustain. The design and finish are very nice and complement the beautiful sound. The included case is also very well made. Even the included mallets are finished in an aesthetic manner. Bottom line I could not be happier with this purchase. The song in the video is something I composed on the first day I received the drum. It was recorded outdoors on my iPhone 12 without any sound effects. ... show more

Ordered 2 of these, one to replace the other. Both had 2-3 notes that were totally out of tune. Directions say to add magnets on the interior to improve the tuning. Haven't tried this yet but doubtful. Kept the 2nd one because of it's novelty and interesting appearance...almost a decorator item/conversation piece and enjoy the soothing sounds. But playing artful melodies...not so much! ... show more
