BOTTOM LINE: The worthy successor to the classic original series gets the (inter)stellar hi-def polish in this all-encompassing 7-season boxset. Everything about this massive set is first rate. And it's all here, so you don't have to go chasing down odds & ends... with the exception of the theatrical ST:TNG films. But that's a minor quibble (Tribble?). If you've been wanting to pick up the best possible version of the Next Generation then deactivate your scanners and look no further. Just whip out your credit card and "Make it so!" 5 STARS THOUGHTS: It was with great excitement (and more than a little trepidation) that I sat down to watch the premiere episode of Star Trek: The Next Generation on September 28, 1987. Having grown up with the classic series I knew that this show had some large boots to fill. As each season went on it just got better and better. Sure, there were a few rough patches but the show, like the Enterprise herself, weathered them and soldiered on undaunted. The cast became near and dear to my heart and I was sad to see it end some seven years and 178 episodes later, but I also knew that it was better to go out on somewhat of a high point, rather than sink into oblivion and slink out of site. Now, more than 20 years after it left the airwaves, we get this spectacular deluxe boxset, in high definition with extras out the wazoo and the shows themselves tweaked, fine-tuned and looking & sounding better than ever. This is the set you've been waiting for. If you're on the fence because of the price, don't worry. It's worth every penny. Even if you're just a casual fan you'll be very pleased with this all-inclusive edition. The seasons are divided into two massive snapcases with each disc thankfully locked onto its own hub, rather than stacked on a central post or stuffed into little sleeves, like some poor series. There are loads of special features scattered throughout every disc in the set, so you'll find fun stuff sprinkled everywhere for you to look though, pour over and enjoy. Vintage pieces, newly shot interviews & remembrances, technical tidbits, alternate and/or lost footage, and more! A trekker's treasure trove, to be sure. THE BLU-RAYS: Picard & the crew get the razzle dazzle refreshing they’ve been in dire need of since the first VHS and early DVDs hit video store shelves so many years ago. Each episode has been gone through and cleaned & painstakingly restored to as close to brand new as you can get. I was amazed at how well these shows looked. You can tell the team in charge of the restoration & remastering were fans, too. There are some pieces where they compare before & after, and once you've seen what wonders these folks achieved you'll be oh so glad you bought this set. I know I sure am.     • Star Trek TNG like you've never seen it before. Add it with an XBOX ONE S and 4K Ultra Blu Ray TV and set phasers for stun!
I owned the entire series in the original DVD and "gave" them to my ex-wife during our divorce along with many other things that meant a lot to me. When I saw TNG remastered and Blu Ray I couldn't wait to get them and even paid for overnight delivery. I must say that I was immediately blown away by the quality of the video! When used on a 4K TV along with a 4K Blu Ray player (in my case, an XBOX ONE S) the quality of the video absolutely blew my mind and actually looked 3D! Now I have to go back and get all of my Star Trek on Blu Ray! I was never really picky about Blu Ray or DVD until now, but HOLY COW!!! WHAT an eye popping difference!!!. To make sure it wasn't a fluke, I also got the Roddenberry Vault in Blu Ray which is restored found footage from the original 1966 -69 series and picture quality from DVD to Blu Ray and then from Blu Ray to 4K is absolutely mind blowing even when it's only upconverted by your equipment! I thought 1080P was the max and they would never get better than than 1080P, but HOLY COW!!!!! I can't believe it and can't wait to see what's next plus, I waited just long enough for the prices to drop and they always do drop in price after the early conversation people have dropped the big bucks to buy it first and early. Now is the time with the Superbowl coming and pricing again dropping just as they did after Thanksgiving. Trust me and spend a little cash on the new 4K Blu Ray player or get an XBOX ONE S or XBOX ONE X (something to play 4K Blu Ray 2160 movies and try playing just a Blu Ray movie. It will knock your socks off and I can't wait for the right movie in 4K Blu Ray to come along for me to try! ... show more
