  • RPG Fun.

Star Ocean the Divine Force has been one of the few games this year that I had issues putting down. I felt, yes at launch there was a few issues with framerate or so I read but playing on Xbox One X I didn't see a whole lot of it. I found that the gameplay just made sense. Battles were super-fast, and quick. Locations and towns each had a feel of their own. I personally think the game is gorgeous. I know some people have issues with the character models, but with the trend of the visual look Star Ocean has been going for, I thought they looked nice. Animations in and out of battle to me are fantastic. Some scene animations come across awkward, but nothing too crazy. Each character has their own battle feel, and you can switch between them in and out of battle. This is probably the most fun for me. I think switching from healing, to damage, to spell caster quick and effortlessly adds a really fun variety to the game. The story so far to me, I have 40 hours into the game, isn't my favorite part. I hope it gets more intense, but it just doesn't feel as grand as the game makes it out to be. It is slow in revealing what is actually happening, which is suspense, but also a slog. I am playing as Leticia so maybe it feels more intense on the other side, but I haven't tried it yet. Overall, I would highly recommend! ... show more

Game is fun but it's pretty basic for a JRPG. Not a whole lot new here.

... show more

  • Same as the PS5 version, the only review you need.

This game is filled with too many holes, Tri Ace are getting rusty because they haven't made a decent Star ocean since 2. Star Ocean 2- 9.5/10 Star Ocean 3 7/10 Star Ocean 4 6/10 Star Ocean 5 5/10 Star Ocean 6 6/10 These are honest to God reviews from a fan and a Star Ocean fanatatic, I am the only review you need in 7.8 Billion people on the planet. Star Ocean has just been getting worst or balancing between 5 and 7 out of 10 none of them have come close to the greatness of Star Ocean 2 which was near perfect. The problems with Star ocean 6 The Divine Force: -Needs Larger Font size -Bad Quest tracker -No navigation for any side quests -No Tracker for mini games - so you don't know who you've beaten on the map. -Really bad Battle camera angles- You can't even see your character and the sky at the same time. -No Zoom in or out of the game- You just get a view angle which makes the game look like cheese. -You cannot use more than 4 characters in battle. -You cannot command your CPU to give them any decent tactics like in the original games. -Poor framerates even with framerate mode- some areas stutter. -Poor handeling of items in your inventory- you cannot jump between pages or select more than 1 item at a time, you can only carry 20 of everything, and many of your items are duplicated on separate lines focing you to spend ages running through them. EG/ It looks like this- Bauernwhhr +2 14/20 Bauernwhhr +2 14/20 Bauernwhhr +2 14/20 Bauernwhhr +2 14/20 Bauernwhhr +2 14/20 -Your skills are limited, and you can only perform 3 per tree line, while Tales of Berseria did a better job at this. Star ocean 6 The divine force has limited quantity of skills to use and they aren't very interesting to see. -Super Special moves are uninteresting and weak, and you can accidently skip them too easily, it is as if they didn't have enough money to do a good job with this game. -You cannot sort your items when your selling -Accessories gets removed when a party member leaves the scene- This happens every time and its awfully annoying like no other. -You have to use the D-pad to switch lock on targets- Gets annoying when your movement is required with the left analogue stick. -Wide open maps and not many enemies- respawns are too slow and you have to run around to respawn enemies. -Too many gltches- Characters can get stuck on roofs and edges. -You can't swim in the game- You would think a game named after an Ocean you could swim? -You have to stand still to scan areas for treasure chests, and the scan range doesn't move when you move. Also your device doesn't scan for crystals or Esowa mini game, they appear as large white dots but doesn't show you completed mini games. -There are no decent aerial attacks, You can just spam Duma all the time to get in the air. -Game is easy on Universe mode. -I can't stress enough how camera angles are so bad when fighting bosses. -You run out of AP so easily when fighting Bosses and that makes attacking annoying, boring and gives me depression. It is hard to get the AP back when fighting a boss, but you can scam AP back with Duma which is cheat. Game doesn't need AP points. Star ocean 2 isn't really broke so why fix the series? -No outfits to equip -No way to change the way your weapons look. -Item creation is more complicated and you end up with a really cluttered inventory which makes it hard to sell. You cannot item create more than 1 at a time. My button on the controller broke from all the spamming during item creation. -Magic spells aren't as powerful and don't look as epic as Star ocean 2's Lunar ligiht mix star flare or Meteor storm and Southern Cross. You don't have a lot of magic spells compared to the past games, and your CPU controlled cannot use all of them, in the original game you could turn them off, and let the cpu use all the spells how they please. In the new one your limited to 12 skills or any kind for everyone. -Poorly designed map that has no colour coded areas aside from side quests, and your party members, does not show different colours for towns, or mini games. -It's not open world map, in this day and age you would expect it to be. -You cannot practice your skills outside of battle-The game should let you use skills, outside of battle, because the attack buttons don't do anything outside of battle thus you cannot practice them. -Sorting items when you can sort them- does not have a memory function, so your sort data is always lost. -Buff times for items and skills don't last long even when maxed out, feels like I'm wasting my time using them. -The whole UI of the games mechanics and items/equipment/accessories is really a mess. I didn't like how I equip them. There was nothing wrong with Star ocean 2's method! -Battle music is boring and cliche, there are some nice music tracks on the field though. -English voice overs are bad. -Some characters look like evil killer dolls. -Battle skills aren't as stylish as Star ocean 4 The last hope. -Some battle skills are repeats from Star ocean 3 and 4 but without any style The Good: -Graphics are nice -Characters are cool -Storyline is okay- but cliche -Some music on the field is top notch- Just nothing new with the battle music. -Japanese voices are okay- can also put English subtitles and also for npc dialogue in your options. -You can run fast, fly around on the map for short bursts of flight, you get more flight later in the game. -Gameplay is still fun regardless of the problems. -You can play the game with 2 very different protagonists- Makes for a good replay value as parts of the game is missing unless you replay with the other character. -Storyline isn't the best but its okay. End- I'm sure if Tri-Ace fix all those problems I mentioned the game would be worth a 4/5 There is still fun to be had with this game, regardless of the issues. This game is still better than playing Xenoblade 3 or Tales of Arise, I found those generic JRPG's, while Star Ocean games have always been just repeats of the past but with varying positives and negatives and a better graphic style than Xenoblade 3 and Tales of Arise. These days 3D unreal engine type games are the best, ones that look cell shaded, like Xenoblade 3 and Tales of Arise, I just dislike and that effects my gameplay. Even though I've finished them all, I actually had more fun with Star ocean 6 The divine force. Sadly Tri Ace need to know their problems before they can fix the series. They used to be the best game developer a long time ago, making games like Star ocean 2, Valkyrie profile 1, Tales of Phantasia which Tri-Ace had worked on before they became Tri-Ace. In any case Square Enix need to give Tri-Ace time and money to create their perfections, like they used to and you need the original team behind Valkyrie profile and Star ocean 2 to make the future legendary. Though Star ocean 6 The Divine Force is a fun game, it lacks testing and time to make it the best it can be. I do hope Star ocean 7 comes out and is at least 8 party members in battle, as a starter with really cool battle music and lots of super special attacks, that are stylish as Valkyrie profile game is, yet taking away that silly AP meter, Fingers crossed and good luck. ... show more

  • Bright spots, low points, mostly middle of the road (Update)
Platform For Display: Xbox Series X|Xbox One
Want to list the negatives right off the bat to get them out of the way because they are numerous, annoying, but overall mostly benign to the experience of the story, combat, etc. - Frame rate drops - Subpar graphics - Level design is subpar. You need to constantly check the map... - the map is not always helpful. - Back tracking. I mean a whole heck of a lot. - Raymond says "Shweet" fifty eight thousand times and says "not bad" eighty thousand times. - The text in the game is too small. It desperately needs an update to allow bigger text. - One negative worth expanding on are the menus. They are flat-out bad. There are aspects in the game, like item creation, that force you to stick around in the menus for a while that I avoid because I simply don't have the patience for it. Ok, so with that done. I enjoy the game. Mostly. The combat isn't groundbreaking by any means, but it's engaging enough that I do feel motivated to find stronger opponents and see how I do. It's enjoyable, plain and simple. Oddly enough there's a lot of complexity and details for combat to be parsed through but it's mostly all pointless fluff. Even on the hardest difficulty you never need to do anything more tactical than just making sure you hit really, really hard and remember DUMA's invincibility mode. If you're really struggling, Nina can heal you endlessly since there's no MP/Mana system to worry about. Updated: The last leg of the game has a very large difficulty spike that most of the game doesn't prepare you for, with some bosses having practically instant death attacks (so level grinding isn't helpful). It brings front and center a feature that would have been much appreciated: the ability to issue specific orders to specific companions. Because you can't though, your allies will often charge into an enemy, and certain death, unless you're switching between characters to steer them away from danger. The story with Raymond's side of the story is fine. Divine Force's roster of jokers range from passable to endearing. Personally, the only character to really stand out is Midas, but overall it's fun to see interactions between characters and it's why you will push through the tedious task of finding "private actions" by repeatedly visiting different places. To be honest, I feel a certain distance between myself and the game's world. Many questions dealing with why/how/when/who are eyerolling or vague. Updated: It's not to the point that the game is nonsensical, but there's just one too many times where plot points are either too convenient, instantly contradicted, or ultimately forgotten. It makes too many story beats unsatisfying. Do I recommend it? Yes and no. I think it really comes down to whether you can imagine yourself enjoying the game's and genre's eccentricities. This game is very much a standard JRPG outing, for better and for worse, and if that's what you expect and you're a fan of the Star Ocean series, then there are enough positive aspects that will shine through its problems. That's the case for myself, although the late game difficulty spike was the most difficult to stomach. If you're lukewarm on JRPGs from the get go, this is not the game to convince you of the error of your ways. Its numerous, annoying problems combined with a story that has many issues will snuff out any potential positives very quickly. ... show more
