I purchased one of these 120GB ones last week for a NuC and installed it, all seemed fine, then in the middle of cloning the system to it, it died. I debated giving up on these, but decided to try one more time and Amazon immediately sent me a replacement which arrived today. I took every safety precaution and installed it, let it acclimate, and cloned the system over to it and the second one as of the last 3 hours is performing flawlessly. This is replacing a Kingston 2.5 ssd as the sata connector card in the NuC is defective. When I booted up the system after setting the bios to start form the msata card, the speed was phenomenal compared to the older kingston ssd. If it works for a long time this will make me very happy. Of note, the first one I received is the complete opposite of the pictures here in this item page. the chips and components were on the opposite sides of the board! I do not know what kind of revision it was, but it died immediately. The second one that is working looks just like the first image in the listing here. So i had a 300gb hhd installed on my B590 Laptop that failed. I had to buy another one but i have and 1tb hard drive that i use as my storage for everything so did not wanted to use that as my OS for this laptop so I had to buy another hard drive and saw that my laptop had a mSATA connection that was for cache drive according to specs. Anyways gave it a try bought this just to run my OS and it works flawlessly great. and now i can use the hhd bay for my extra drive. BOOT TIME from POWER OFF to ON to SIGN IN SCREEN less than 10 SECONDS well 8.46 SEC. yeah great product for what it is and does. Ill follow up for future things if something comes up. ... show more

    • Endurance appears to be very low

I’ve had this drive for about 2 years. I just looked at its S.M.A.R.T. statistics and they show the drive reporting 36% for its “Percentage Used Endurance Indicator” (which is an estimate of how much of its lifespan has been used as projected by the manufacturer). Only 2,217,683,324 logical sectors have been written to the drive; with 512-byte sectors, this is about 1.03 TB. So, based on the 36%, it would mean this drive had a TBW (Terabytes Written) of only 2.87 TB. (TBW is a metric that manufacturers use to estimate how many terabytes can reliably be written to SSD drives.) Even some of the cheapest SSDs have TBWs of at least 30 TB. In fact, with this being an MLC NAND drive (per one of the photos), it should have at least three times the endurance of SSDs that use 3D NAND. The “Percentage Used Endurance Indicator” can’t be due to the SSD’s age since the metric is based on writes to the drive. Even if it was based on age, the power-on hours for my drive are 12,306, or about 1.4 years, and Dogfish claims 1.75M MTTF (Mean Time To Failure). MTTF is measured in hours and 1.75 million hours is almost 200 years. As a side note, based on power-on hours and logical sectors written, I’ve written about 2.06 GB/day to this drive, which is extremely low. So, either the “Percentage Used Endurance Indicator” is going up much faster than it should (e.g., due to a firmware bug) or the manufacturer doesn’t have much faith in this product. Note, I was not able to find Dogfish’s lifetime TBW rating anywhere. Maybe there’s a reason they don’t publish it? Since most SSDs last several times longer than manufacturers stipulate, I’m hoping that’s the case with my SSD as well, with it lasting several years longer than the “Percentage Used Endurance Indicator” projects. Since I haven’t had any actual problems yet, I feel the 36% “Percentage Used Endurance Indicator” value warrants knocking off only two stars. ... show more
