After a warehouse snafu, we received the board within about 1 week. My 13 year old daughter loved it, and she was able to get up and ride waves with incredible ease. Unfortunately, after only her third time out, one of the fins and fin box completely separated from the board. I reached out to South Bay Board Co. and they arranged for a full refund. Sadly, the damage is irreparable because it is a foam board. I was so happy with the customer service that I turned around and purchased another board for my daughter and one for my son from the same company. Now I am just hoping this fin issue was a fluke and it won’t happen again. I did learn that I will keep the packaging for these new boards in case there is a problem with them. I disposed of the packaging from the broken board and now I am stuck with an unusable surf board in my garage. Thinking it may make a nice piece of wall art, though. Bottom line is that this is a great company to deal with and what I hope is a one-off problem that won’t happen again. ... show more

Seems like a decent quality foam board for beginners. A little pricey for what it is. Initially got shipped the wrong color, but returned and got the right one the next time. My daughter’s taken it out about half a dozen times so far; seems to be holding up well.

Excellent customer service, so don't hesitate if that is a concern. I waited to write my review until I used the board (8 ft longboard). I really enjoyed it. I had a blast surfing with my brother and looking forward to teaching the kids. This board was fun dropping in and still more maneuverable than I expected. So, if you are a beginner or more experienced surfer looking for a great surfboard, look no further! If something changes, with respect to quality/durability, I will definitely update. I love the board! Ive had a dozen fiberglass boards and recently switched to soft boards.. ie wavestorm... this SBBC is by far a much more refined quality board.. the shape , construction, quality, fins ,double concave bottom.. mind blowing for sure.. I was reluctant to spend the extra $$ for it but I can now see why .. IT'S WORTH IT!! I'll give an update after taking it the water..but I'm expecting only positive vibes.. ... show more

    • 1st surf, GoPro Mount broke/nose cracked.

I had high hopes for this foamie. I planned on using it in conjunction with my fiberglass Ozone to reduce fatigue. I also hoped to share it with friends interested in trying surfing for the first time. Unfortunately on my first outing with the board, I took a nose dive on a 4’er that not only produced and noticeable crack in the foam but also dislodged the GoPro mount. I wasn’t going to risk losing my hero 6 so I retired the board for the rest of the trip and reverted back to my trusty Ozone. Good thing I kept the box because I plan on returning it as soon as I get home. Update: I’ve decided to change my rating from one to two stars based on South Bay Board’s excellent Costumer Service. After posting my previous (unsatisfied) review and rating, South Bay contacted me to inform me they were sending me another board free of charge so I can give their product another go. Perhaps the previous board was defective, or perhaps it was simply a fluke. Either way I’ll give it another go in the autumn surf and get back to you. LA, out. ... show more

You cannot go wrong ordering this board! Really well built and beautiful. I ordered this board for my daughter's 9th birthday. It arrived quickly, but unfortunately was damaged by the carrier. I contacted Alex at Gold Coast Surfboards and he immediately took care of the issue! I have not seen excellent, personal customer service like this in a very long time. The surfboard is very sturdy and comfortable, and makes it very easy to ride the waves. My daughter is super stoked about her new board and I'm a happy customer! I got the 8 foot board and it had some problems with delivery but customer service was great and handled it. Once the board came in, it was in great shape and good for a beginner myself. I just took it out for my first surf and was able to catch a couple white water waves. Excited to get better and progress with the board. PS. it fits inside of my 4 door acura aslong as i put my passenger seat all the way back. for those who are wondering cause I did ahaha ... show more

It came packaged very well, I absolutely love the rubber emblem on the front, aqua color and the finger print design. I haven't had a chance to use it yet but will this weekend. * UPDATE : took it out to the ocean and only complaint I have is the leash plug started coming loose and I made sure all of them were super tight before going out. Otherwise very happy with purchase I just think the leash plug could be addressed to enhance it. ... show more
