This is great for the puzzle people in your life. It has a lot of pieces to assemble and is complicated enough that adults don't feel as though they are getting an item meant for kids. The only drawback is that some of the pieces need to be sanded before they will fit properly.

A few weeks ago I purchased a Kiwicrate that included a lock and key box building set. I thought it was fun, but too easy, so I bought this puzzle. This puzzle took me around 4 hours, and a lot of the time was trying to press the pieces together, because they are a pretty exact (tight) fit. The set comes with a few boards of the laser-cut wood pieces that you have to punch out, some little wooden sticks that you have to cut and shorten, some wax, 2 rubber bands, and a tiny little sanding paper. Overall, I would say it is good quality. The laser cut pieces are very clear cut, and the finished product looks good. However, it really bothered me when some of the pieces were really hard to press in. A few of the little skinny sticks snapped, and although it could still be put together, you could see the mistakes in the final product. I guess I don't have the patience to keep sanding the pieces down and slowly twisting them in. So, I think this is a good project or gift for any meticulous and patient person. Just make sure to punch the pieces out carefully, because there aren't extras for some of the pieces. The lock was really cool, but even though I followed the instructions, my password ended up different from the number that I intended to set. That may have been my mistake, but the instructions can be somewhat confusing. The finished product was somewhat smaller than I expected, and I don't really know what you could even put in the compartment. A ring? A necklace? Anyways I bought it for the puzzle, so it dosent really matter to me, but if you buy this as a box, be aware that the opening compartment is very small maybe a little more than 1". If you are careful, and have patience and time...buy it! But if not, it might just just be kind of frustrating. ... show more

It is a fantastic and challenging puzzle that provides hours of entertainment. The kit is made from high-quality wood and looks amazing once completed. I enjoy puzzles and building things. I've done other rokr would projects before. All of them are challenging. I Bought this to use as a gift to hold cash. I assembled it myself because the recipient would not be interested in building it themselves but thought the box was really awesome. Took me about 4-5 hours. It was time consuming and some of the pieces are fragile, tiny, need sanding, etc... Instructions could be better IMO. I had to disassemble a few steps back because of a confusing part that didn't surface prior. I found a YouTube video that was pretty helpful. If you do have to disassemble anything, be aware you run very high risk of damaging important pieces. Some have duplicates just in case, but most don't. I think it's possible to order the replacement from the company directly for free, but thankfully I didn't have to do that. I advise you take it in sections and take breaks in between. It requires some patience and thought to get it right. I used a little wood glue on a few parts to reinforce them. ... show more

These kits are fantastic to put together for a young person, or even someone older who likes to build complex things from a kit. However, regarding the moving mechanism of any of these, it turns only to work when you first build it, and then not the next day after the wood dries out a little. i therefore recommend treating the wood before punching the pieces out to prevent shrinkage after the kit is built if keeping the clever movement is important to the builder. ... show more

This kit comes with a combination sorting tool. It tries to help you understand how the tumbers work in a locking mechanism. But, they take pitty on you by giving you a table in the back of the manuel to help you set your own combination. After taking the locking mechanism a couple of times, none of the parts would stay, they were so "polished" so, I ended up gluing the front to the base to stablize it. After that the piece fit goot. But, the combination I chose really did not work well. Although it is a workable one and I was able to set my combination to the listed tumbler code, when I finally got it all together, it did not really match up to the combination. But, the gears do unlock with a combination that is close to what I set. The rest of the assembly was really good. There is a washer that is very tiny. I t hink it is D7. I broke the 1st one in half just trying to get it out. Unfortunately, they give you several extras. I also packing taped the lasered corners to reenforce them. One still cracked in one spot. But, because I had already glued that piece in, it stayed intacted and I just applied glue to that crack using a toothpick. Between the packing tape on the inside and the glue at the bottom, it stayed intacted very nicely. I do wish they were go to tabbed/slotted square corners. It took me several days on and off for this one. Which was nice. I am taking my time with these kits. ... show more
