    • Excellent Region-Free Blu Ray Player
The player that was shipped to me was the model S1700 rather than S1500. I don’t think there is much difference either way, and regardless, this is an excellent player. I have British Blu Ray restoration of the Horror of Dracula that would not play on either of my other region free players, but on this one it plays perfectly. I have tried a number of British and Italian DVDs that I own, and all play correctly. As for the player itself, it is quite good. I have a similar Sony Blu Ray that have served me well for several years. The player is much more compact than it appears in the photo, being only about 9” wide x 7” deep. It comes pre-installed with a number of internet players such as Prime Video, Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, etc. The biggest downside is that it does not have wireless internet access; I run Ethernet throughout my house, so it is no issue for me, but if wireless internet is a requirement, you should pass on this player, otherwise this is an excellent region-free player. ... show more

I've been through a few DVD/Blu-Ray players recently. (most of them junk... get what you pay for) Can't seem to find one worth it's coin. So I'm giving this a top rating right now. I may change or update later. So far this unit plays all DVD/Blu-rays I've got with no issues. (yes even regions other than US) The remote is small and comfortable in your hand. It also is setup in the standard fashion, so you do not have to hunt for what button does what. Don't have Ethernet in the area where my TV is, so I can not comment on that feature, but right out of the box it works no issues. Would have been nice for it to be WiFi capable, but I knew it was not when I brought it. For the price... as long as it lasts... it's a good buy. ... show more

I love it I don't have to turn the TV on just hit one button on the Blu-ray remote and it is on. Very clear I love how simple it is to change regions on it too. DVDs look sharp also. I love this Blu-ray player.

Glad to see Sony making a free zone player. Comes with a good selection of streaming apps. I like VUDU and the is there. Very good picture quality.

i've had this for several months now & it works well. given how light it is (which means plastic parts); i dont know how long it will last. as one who is technologically challenged (& the despair of my children), the fact that for me it is easy to hook up & use means that anyone would find it easy to use. what i LOVE about it is that it will play any dvd---like region 2 (UK) & 4 (Australia). For reasons i can't fathom, the TV show Good Behavior was only available in region 4. also for reasons i dont understand, often the region 2 DVDs are less expensive than the US ones (region 1)--so i was able to obtain all the DVDs of New Tricks, Morse, & Inspector Lewis at good prices. ... show more

I have owned a few other units and most had confusing remotes or didn't allow you to see menu screens. This unit is very simple to use, lets me see all the menu screens and since I have a Sony t.v. it works seamlessly. I would recommend it to anyone.

Hi. This Sony is a fabulous blue ray, region free player! 1st, let's talk about the little remote-it doesn't have any numbers on it. I thought that might be hard to get around but after a week I didn't miss them any more. Zone A-yellow button on remote, region B is the blue button and region C is the red. Turn the tv on tv on, it comes, turn it off, it goes off. If you have a full screen movie it automatically gets rid of the black bars on the sides and it has a crystal clear image-the bet one of any player I've ever had. And it plays all of my Lee Byung Hun movies to utter perfection like he's right in the room. I couldn't ask for a better player, can't say enough good things about it and I've been playing it twice a day, every day since getting it in Nov. last year, so I know it's a darn good one.
