  • Great smart home panel!
I love all Sonoff products and I love these panels. I have several around my house. They connect to wifi very easily and have very little latency while using the app. The only issue is the odd size of them. They don't fit standard 2 gang electric boxes. I found a two gang and three gang adapter wall plate on Etsy and problem solved. ... show more

  • Great with ESPHome
After a bit of learning I decided to pick this up and flash ESPHome onto it. I wouldn’t say this mod is for everyone, but if you’re handy with small electronics it’s not too hard. I’ve been creating my own UI for it using Nextion Editor and it’s going slow but it’s coming out well. If this is the path you’re taking with this, I highly recommend the device. However, if you want to use this out of the box I can’t recommend it. I don’t have any other devices that connect to the eWeLink app so it was useless for me. Out of the box it performed like a light switch with extra steps. If you have many products linked to your eWeLink app it could work for you, but I don’t know anyone with a setup like that. ... show more

  • Doesn't Fit In Standard Size US Gang Box!
I've powered up this switch and messed with it enough using a temporary hookup to an AC outlet- the UI and capability for the price are great. Home Assistant integration in a switch like this for the price seemed too good to be true. Because it was. I go to remove my old switch from the gang box, and begin to evaluate how I want to mount it in the box, etc, and then realize something that utterly confounded me. These folks actually designed all this for an affordable price, and clearly never even bothered to check if it *even fits in a standard electrical gang box*. That's right, you read that correctly. These fools are selling a product that DOESN'T FIT IN THE FOOTPRINT OF THE SWITCH ITS MEANT TO REPLACE. Frankly, if I was Sonoff I would be ashamed for such an absurd oversight. In a single-gang electrical box it overflows on either side horizontally. In a double-gang it fits (on the horizontal plane); the caveat here is that you aren't going to be using a second switch due to the same horizontal overflow. It literally takes up an entire 2-gang box because these numpties didn't spend the time to bother to get the right dimensions for a country-wide electrical standard in size. This includes both portrait and landscape orientations also- doesn't fit either way. What an absolute joke. I've read elsewhere that some folks had slightly more luck using PVC gang boxes rather than the metal ones present in my home. Metal gang boxes are generally ubiquitous in construction older than a decade or two, which is a vast majority of houses in the US. As far as I know, many are still built with metal boxes, which compounds this even further. I can only assume any success may be due the PVC being more flexible and bowing out in the horizontal wall for the switch to fit- potentially cracking the PVC box in the process and presumably violating electrical code. Regardless, I have exactly no interest in tearing open my wall to replace the entire box with a PVC one for the sake of this questionable switch; read on to find out why the "questionable" moniker fits here. Questionable refers to the part where- despite any assertions otherwise (the numbers vary depending on where you look online)- this switch is equipped with *only* 2 amp relays. Frankly, this seems like a fire hazard waiting to happen to me. In a standard 15/20 amp circuit, everything is rated for 15/20 amps. That should be common sense. Every other switch I have in my home- be it a "dumb" switch, a Z-Wave switch, or otherwise, is rated at the default 15A or higher. The fact that Sonoff is content to bury the rating of these relays- which are a fraction of what they should be rated for- in the specs and act as though its safe is appalling. If someone who didn't know better wired this as a "quick upgrade" (assuming they can fit it in the wall) into a circuit that may have fans, halogen bulbs / drop-lights, hell, even a switch-controlled outlet with something like a window AC plugged into it- think any wall plug device with a motor like a vacuum- then they would potentially be putting their home at risk for fire or similar electrical issue. There's just no excuse. Honestly, I'm scratching my head as to how this got any legal certification in the first place. I bought this because the price was great, it fit my need, and overall seemed like a pretty good product. After dealing with what I've outlined above and the *OBVIOUS* corners that were cut (at least with the US version), I have to say I'm disgusted. There was clearly a great idea at the core of this device- the ESP3X heart running it and the okay-ish Nextion screen for user UI all in a small package- but its clear Sonoff woefully missed the mark on this to the (potentially fatal) detriment of their customers. I want to like it and have it work so badly, but after this nonsense I'm more inclined to stick a Raspberry Pi in the wall and mount a screen in front of it. Probably an actual cheaper solution- certainly a safer one too. ... show more

  • It was easier than expected
I wasn't sure what my expectations were when I bought this controller. I came to realize that I didn't have a bunch of stuff that would need this kind of automation, mostly due to the size of my apartment! That said, it's still pretty cool how it can automate and regulate many common items like your AC, inside and outside lighting, etc. For the money, it's worth it. ... show more

  • Great for DIY
I got one of these when they first came out many months ago. It is basically a small formfactor tablet that runs a very minimal firmware. The software that comes on it was not very usable in my opinion, but after reflashing it (many videos online how to do this) it is a GREAT DIY advanced light switch replacement. We use it for controlling lighting, curtains, and other things in our main living room. You can write a custom interface for it without really having to learn programming. There are some techy bits, but 95% of that work has already been done by the community that supports it. ... show more

  • This IS NOT a thermostat
This says it's a thermostat but it isnt at all. You have to have a smart thermostat already (though they dont tell you what kind or offer any instructions). This means you still have your old thermostats on the wall and have to add this somewhere else to control them. This would be a great device to control 12V LED lighting but nothing else. 2A rating is very dangerous. ... show more

  • Works great!
Controls up to two hard wired switches no problem. Like that there are physical buttons to press. Voice control was easy to set up. Wish it had a proximity sensor to turn off display when no one is near it.
