The separated sections are extremely useful, which is why I opted to buy this one as opposed to others even 6 dollars cheaper with the same exact outer container design & dimensions. I used all the trays for seeding today, and wished it came with a quantity of 6 instead of 4, but oh well. I definitely wanted the 1.5 x 2 cells because it's perfect for germinating seeds, rather than bigger sizes that hold onto more water, & since light is more important at that stage. I really wanted the higher lid dome to really establish some good roots over time before a transplant. The small scoop shovel was most useful, and especially the plant labels, since I didn't have to use my own labels up. Writing with a (lead) pencil ensures the writing lasts long, as opposed to using marker inks that fade and wear away. I may update in the future about how the transplants went. My one suggestion on the design of the product is that clear, (instead of green) for the vent disk cover would've been more useful and allowed more UV grow light penetration. I love these trays. They are less expensive than Burpee's trays and work just as well. I'm going on my second season with them and they are holding up very well. It's nice being able to use them over and them not break up like the Jiffy trays you get at the big box stores.

I can always use more seed starting pods, seems like there are never enough. I purchased these because they promised to be reusable and strong -- and they are both. The rows of pods, 4 in a row, fit nicely into the four trays that are included. You can put 5 rows of pods to a tray for 20 seedlings. The pods just touch the floor of the tray so you can add a little water to the bottom for bottom watering or water from the top and the tray will catch the extra .. your choice. The trays are reasonably strong material and if not abused should last for many planting cycles. The pods are even thicker plastic but the bottoms are soft rubbery material with slits for the water to pass through. When it is time to transplant your seedlings, the pod row are easily removed and a push of the finger on the bottom of the pod released the seedling. It is so easy to use, and the pods are not damaged in any way so they can be cleaned and reused. There are humidity domes for each tray, and round baffles that can be open or closed to keep humidity in or to provide air circulation. As a bonus, a couple of cute tools are included as are a plentiful supply of labels. I think this pretty much my favorite seed started kit; I will use it often and for a long time to come. ... show more
