  • Gets the job done
My panels are getting older and get leaks occasionally. It's odd that the leaks are always very close to the ends of the tubes. As for the tool, it does the job, it is somewhat flimsy and pricey, you have to take your time cutting into the tube, I did slip on one of them and cut the next tube. You could go to a hobby shop and get a small wood gouge for probably about $3 and use a small allen wrench to push the plug in, but, they packaged it so you pay. Overall, if you take your time and don't put too much pressure on the knife it does a good job. I've gone through the first bag of plugs and am ordering another. I did put some silicone around the plugs as some have suggested and have had no problems with any of them. May not be needed, but gives a good peace of mind ... show more

  • Much better than replacing the panel
The kit works as described but the instructions are kind of lacking. The cutter was dull and rusty right out of the package. A quick touchup on the buffer had it cutting much better. A larger handle would be really nice. The "insertion tool" is just a very small ball-end hex wrench and the cutter is a very small woodworking or carving tool. The only "specialty" part of the kit are the rubber stoppers and I'm sure they're actually used for something else. This kit stopped my pool panel leaks for much less than the cost of a replacement. A word of warning though. I caused at least one more leak by walking on the panels to do the repair. I also messed up once and mis-counted/measured so I was off by one tube between the top and bottom. This required me to install two extra plugs to correct that mistake. ... show more

  • Incredibly Simple
I have to admit I was skeptical about this product but I purchased it anyway and I am glad. This product is not for the lighthearted or for those than do not have some technical skill about them. Yes you have to get on the roof and you have to carefully cut in to your sun panel the tube that is leaking at the top end and the bottom end. Outside of that I found it quite simple, I got tired of paying the solar panel people 140.00 each time my panel sprung a leak for the 15 minutes they spent fixing it. Bottom line I did the cuts used some soap inserted the plugs and the next day turned on the panels and no leaks it has been at least a month now and still no leaks. ... show more

  • Solar Panel repair
There were no directions as another customer already noted. That was frustrating. Should be easy to put a one sheet instruction sheet with tools. However, once you have the panel in front of you it is pretty easy to figure out. I see where many folks mentioned to use some type of lubricant (soapy water, etc). I used PVC pipe glue and it worked great. I figured it was a good lubricant, as well as, i was able to turn the system on five minutes after putting the plugs in. (I had read where someone had the plugs pop out since they were not dry, that is why i tried the glue) Worked great!! ... show more

  • good repair kit
I love how easy the product works. Cut in about 20+ plugs and stays sharp - no corrosion.. no mis-cuts or incidental damage. no more leaks which is the best part. The panels were damaged in almost a dozen places by negligence. This kit saved paying another $200 per panel replacement. Was a good deal. If I could offer one suggestion, find a way to incorporate the insertion tool inside the handle of the cutting tool so it all goes together when stored. Other than that It works perfect. ... show more

  • Super easy to use and sure beats epoxy
Wish I’d have grabbed this long ago. Had a couple of leaks on my panels and have been patching them with epoxy for several years. Finally took the plunge of cutting into the panel with this tool and read the online instructions and literally 2 minutes later the leak is fixed, I’m not even sure it took a full 2 minutes. If you have a leak, this tool is the bomb! ... show more

  • It works!
I was a little skeptical of this product. However, I tried it on my pool solar heater that sprung a leak and it does indeed work! Some complained there are no directions, just lookup some directions online, or watch a video online. Another reviewer recommended using pvc cement to lubricate the plug as you slide it in, I liked that idea because it would seem to seal the plug in once it dries. No leaks for me so far! ... show more

  • Repair kit does not provide instructions on making the repair. Had to get instructions from YouTube.
The repair kit was easy to use and made repair work simple. Repair took less than 5 minutes. Saved over $100 from what Solar Company wanted to charge to repair their product.
