My boyfriend does the dirty job: mixing supplements like vegetable fertilizer, compost, peat moss, lime, perlite, bone meal, etc. into last year's planting soil to revitalize it before he transplants this year's seedlings into our garden bins. I am the one who maintains all of the plants as they grow by watering, providing organic liquid fertilizer and spraying a Dawn and Baking soda mixture with organic Neem oil, etc. to deal with any pests as well as outbreaks of powdery mildew caused by humid weather. Because I am a detail-oriented person, I keep a calendar like a journal on which I write my observations, reminders, concoctions I've mixed, etc. I was intrigued when I saw this Karrikaid Soil Nutrient Booster, 32 oz. become available. The product page wasn't very specific about the percentage of ingredients, and when I received the bottle, I learned nothing more. So, I wrote the seller, who sent my inquiry to the KarriKaid Team. C. responded, "It contains about 90% water, 5-6% acetic acid, with the remaining consisting mostly of succinic, malic, propionic, pyruvic, lactic acid and phenols. The product is designed to help break down soil minerals and compounds, as well as any fertilizer being used to help make them more bioavailable for plant root uptake. This helps to boost the availability of the soil's nutrients." Karrikaid Support Team I researched the above ingredients, and all are naturally organic and help with fermentation and the breakdown of carbons. This falls in line with what another reviewer reported about the rejuvenation of plant growth after wildfires. And wouldn't you know? This Karrikaid liquid smells like smoke! I followed the directions on the bottle and mixed 1/2 T. in 1 gallon of water for seedlings. The solution looks like weak tea in my sprayer. I used my automatic Field King Promax sprayer because I'm done with pumping, especially on hot days or before dusk when the mosquitoes attack me. I mixed another batch just to be certain I gave each seedling enough nutrients. I did this while my boyfriend worked in the garage on his own project. When my boyfriend learned what I did, he got upset with me for spraying all of our seedlings with Karrikaid. "You should have only sprayed half of the tubs and left the others alone for a control. We've never used a product like this before. If our okras die like they did in all that rain last year, we will have to order more seeds again. I wish you had not sprayed the okras with that stuff." So, I immediately went back outside and drenched the okras with plain water, even the few weaklings I hoped might improve with the use of Karrikaid . My own plan was to see how well the booster works not only on the weak okras but also on our sorry-looking basils. One eggplant in a pot needs a little help, too. The Bright Lights Swiss Chard were very young seedlings when we bought them at a nursery and need to catch up to the others. I've made my own concoctions with different liquid products over the years and never had any plants suffer. It's the weather and insects that cause all the problems. After 3 hours, I watered all of the seedlings again, until they were drenched because it's such a sunny day with an amazingly low humidity of 31%. As I mentioned earlier, we always embellish our planting soils, so it may be difficult to distinguish if our seedlings grow better having used this Karrikaid Soil Nutrient Booster. My boyfriend remains cautiously skeptical and why I'm rating 4 stars for now. Update: By 7:45PM today, I swear our Swiss Chard perked up. ... show more

I was actually a bit nervous to try this KARRIKAID Soil Nutrient Booster on my precious plants because I've never used it, and don't know anyone that has, so take it from me that it's good stuff! The smell is interesting; it reminds me of soy sauce, or worcestershire sauce. I was glad it didn't have a toxic chemical smell, otherwise I would not have used it. I will continue to use it every 2-3 weeks in alternation with my regular fertilizer. ... show more

I tried the KARRIKAID Soil Nutrient Booster on about half of my container plants this year to see if it helps. First off, the product has an unusual smell that's hard to place, but it's not unpleasant. It mixes well with water for application and a little goes a long way. This product is applied to the plant and to the soil. I've done both and I've not noted a huge difference between treated vs untreated plants, but the treated plants do seem to be faring a little bit better. I will keep applying this to the same group of containers and update this review as needed, but for now it does appear to give the treated plants a bit of an edge. Style: Soil Nutrient Booster
I got this on a whim, figuring I'd be able to easily look up the details (the science, why it works, how this is different from the other options) and so on. But it's not on their website at all. Lot of marketing jargon - special formula, distinctive mix, etc. But, you don't actually know what you are putting on your plants...and if you are growing food, what may be going in your body. It's likely fine, but I'd like to know. There is some info on the internet about biochar in general. It can be very alkinline - that is important to know if you plan on using this on acid loving plants, such as blueberries or azaleas. Additionally, biochar has some negatives to it - look those up. Lastly, biochar products are created from many different materials, is created at different temperatures, and the final product can vary in many different ways. The website, in one place, says that the biochar comes from pistachio shells - it could be that all their product lines are from pistachios, but I am not positive. In California, there are a lot of these from the pistachio farms, I'd guess, and this could be a great way to use them. I just don't know enough. I do believe that biochar may be helpful in certain circumstances, but without actual information rather than marketing hype regarding what is in THIS product and what crops/plants to use it on, I don't see how buying this is an informed choice. Now, having said all that...I was given two plant - a young fig tree and a white sage plant. Both were very stressed because of how they were moved. I soaked the fig for a day, hoping that would help it, and removed at least 1/2 of the white sage's older stems which were now clearly dead. The white sage had almost no signs of life and the fig lost every leaf. I decided to try this on both plants, as well as some strawberries that had jut been transplanted and clearly were stressed, too. I used this produce once about 5 days after transplantation, then again 2 weeks later as they all looked a bit better and I thought I might as well see if this would help more. I looked at the plants today - it's been about a month total - and was very surprised. The fig tree has several new leaves, the strawberry plants all have a lot of new growth and blooms, and even the white sage looks like it might make it. I cannot be sure that this helped and I did other things to help the plants, too. My guess, though, is that it definitely helped the plants through some pretty dramatic transplant shock. ... show more
