My husband and I really like this shoe rack. We were surprised to find that the top part isn't a drawer but in stead you open the top upwards. That part also broke within the first month. Other than that, it served us well and we like the color of the light wood. Looks great!

    • Didn't "Square" properly, shallow shelves, not the smartest design

It would have been quicker to have a power drill to put this together, but I did it all using my leatherman. The pre-drilled holes made this fairly easy and the only screws that didn't have predrilled holes were the last two screws I put in for the hinge. The top of the levered box does not sit square with the compartment underneath, and the material is covered particleboard. Not great quality, but not terrible. It doesn't look very nice close-up, but from a distance it is ok. My biggest problem: The depth is fairly shallow. My shoes (Size 9.5 Women's) are too long to fit on without some overhang on both sides, but if they overhang on just one side, they will fall off easily. I normally solve this by setting the shoe rack slightly out from the wall and just having equal overhang on both sides of the rack, however the positioning of the (wide) legs at the rear of the rack make this impossible to do, losing about 3 inches of storage space on each side of the rack. This is nearly a whole pair of shoes on each shelf! Additionally, the racks are pretty close together. My Vans High Tops fit (barely) between shelves, but I have several pairs of heels (~3 inch) that do not fit on the rack, and none of my ankle height booties can fit either. I have the booties on top of the levered box, but that means that the storage area is not usable to keep things I need to access on a regular basis. It isn't terrible, and it looks fine from a distance, and I put all the effort into building it, so I will not be returning it but I wouldn't buy it again and I wouldn't recommend it to a friend, especially not for how much this costs! Things that are good: -Relatively easy to put together, even without a power drill. -All the pieces were in the box, including one extra of each type of screw Improvements I would make: -Repositioning the legs of the rack, probably a total redesign of how the rack bears its load would be needed to maintain stability. -If I didn't need all of the shelf space, I might take out one of the shelves to make a shelf for taller shoes such as heels and booties. If I was redesigning the product I would probably make this rack taller and add ~1-1.5 inches of "headspace" to each shelf. Even a just half-inch would allow me to store a more diverse set of shoes including most of my ankle booties and all of my heels. -Take out the levered storage compartment. It is poorly designed and ultimately makes the product look cheaper than if it were just not there at all. If this were a pullout drawer instead of levered, or less crappy looking it is a good idea, and I could use it to store socks or something but as is, it's basically useless and aesthetically degradates the product as a whole. ... show more

Very cheaply made, the shelves are quite short, doesn't actually fit all the shoes on. The hardware provided doesn't line up fully and has since fallen out (the screws are too small for the hole)
