My son has an axe throwing target on the back of his door. It’s been there for 3 years. The foam axes that go with it have been chewed on by the dog and don’t stuck to the target very well any more. He was due for an upgrade and this bedroom door basketball hoop was perfect option to replace it. We haven’t given it to him yet as it’s due to be a Christmas present, but I put it together and tried it out for this review. In the fun full color printed box, you get the basketball hoop itself, two deflated rubber mini basketballs, a hand pump and needle, the hoop mesh, the door mounting hardware with screws, an electronic scoreboard and an instruction sheet. The hoop itself is made of a piece of 1/16th inch thick plexiglass with foam strips backing it to press against the door. The hoop itself is a metal rim complete with a spring mechanism to allow for flexing if pulled on. The whole thing is designed to be able to be wall mounted or put over the top of a door. It comes with door hooks that mounts at the top of the backboard with screws and hook over the top of the door. If you so wish, there are screw holes in the door hooks that will allow you to permanently screw the board into the door. The electronic scoreboard is operated with three AAA batteries and mounts behind the plexiglass with the scoring LEDs visible through the plexy. It must have some kind of sensor that tracks hoops. The scoreboard is operated with a switch that both turns it on but also includes a silent mode. Unfortunately, since the switch is set high up on the score board housing and the scoreboard is mounted behind the backboard, it’s kind of inconvenient to turn it on and off if the hoop is permanently mounted to a wall or door. Definitely a design mistake and a huge oversight. Since we intend this to be non-permanently attached to a door, it think it will be ok for us, both others might not be so charitable. Aside from the poor switch location on the scoreboard, this is a really nice toy. The foam backing helps prevent door damage and it looks nice. I like the spring loaded hoop, though I wouldn’t recommend dunking on this thing as the plexiglass isn’t rigid enough to be able to take the pressure without shattering. The balls are a nice size and I really like that they included a pump. Aside from a screwdriver, you have everything you need to put this thing together and get playing inside the box. Bottom Line: This is a quality product that is nicely made and designed. The bad switch placement on the electronic scoreboard is a major misstep and loses this hoop a star, but otherwise, this thing is well worth a look if you’re in the market. ... show more

This hoop is great for a kids bedroom, my daughter loves it. There was not a good spot on a door frame so I had to install it on the wall which was pretty easy, used the included hardware. Would have been nice if they had included a template for where to place the anchors but I was able to put a piece of painters tape on it, mark the holes and then put the tape on the wall. This is a very sturdy hoop but obviously wouldn’t take anyone hanging from the rim. I hate to ding this product a star but there is no way around it, they have a design flaw. The automatic scoring system which I probably wouldn’t have used anyway is completely inaccessible if your hoop is installed on the wall, it can’t be turned on or off. I installed batteries in the system before realizing this so the only way to retrieve those would be to completely remove this from the wall so I will just leave them up there. My daughter does want to use the scoring but can't get to it so that is a no go. ... show more

The SOFITORG Over The Door Basketball Hoop is surprisingly fun. It was relatively easy to set up and came with everything needed, even appropriate screw drivers and an air pump. Notes: In spite of what the pics show, I do not recommend dunking the ball. The plexi will most certainly end up cracking under the strain as the support screws have nothing distributing their load on the thin plexiglass. It cannot keep score for more than one person. The small score computer cannot be powered on or off without reaching behind the backboard, an action that requires access to the back of the backboard, hard to do when the board us installed. This hoop is pretty neat. It is easy to put together, looks great, and is sturdy. An added bonus is that it is padded around the back to prevent scratching and scuffs on the wall and the door. My issue with it is that it does not fit over my door. This could be just the way the doors are in my house but with the top of the backboard being flush with the top of the hooks, there is no way I can close the door and have the hoop over it.
