So far, this item is working great for me - being completely honest, I haven’t been using it every week as the instructions recommend. Instead, I’ve been using it only about every other week, in small patches at a time. I first started in the areas where my hair is coarsest and bothers me the most - down by my ankles and my armpits. After only a couple of uses, I can already tell a difference. My hair is still growing back, but it’s definitely thinner, and while I can’t be sure, I don’t think it’s growing as fast. I expect it will take me longer to achieve best results due to not using it as often as recommended, but so far, I really like my results. I do understand that even with regular use, this doesn’t necessarily bring permanent hair removal, and I will likely need to perform touch up treatments later. Unlike some other hair removal devices, this one has helpful, detailed instructions and it’s easy to figure out how to use it. My favorite thing about it is that it chooses the appropriate light intensity for you when you put it up against your skin. On top of that safety feature, it won’t activate unless it is on your skin at the proper angle. All of the safety features that I’ve heard about in similar devices are therefore here, and my only complaint is that the fan on this one is a little noisy… but even that isn’t so bad. Just be sure you’re not looking at the light when you activate it to prevent any damage to your eyes. Additionally, note that this device isn’t cordless, so you have to use it close enough to an outlet. The cord is a good length for this. I’m quite fair skinned, and this device doesn’t hurt me to use. On coarser hair such as by my ankles and my armpits, it does sting slightly more than areas of thinner hair, but it’s sort of like an annoying bug crawling on you. Not painful. You will of course smell burning hair while using this as well. To combat dry skin, I do recommend using a lotion or other moisturizer on your skin after using this; I’ve noticed this makes my skin feel better after use. But overall, this device is completely worth it to me so far. Supposedly it has unlimited flashes, and with my limited use of it, as long as it lasts me at least a few years, I’m good with it. It’s much cheaper than getting professional treatments, and it’s easy to use on your own. For me, it is worth paying a little bit more than I normally would spend on razors to get rid of some of the irritating coarser hairs on some areas of my body. ... show more

I have reviewed a LOT of IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) devices at this point. And, frankly, most of them are very similar. So when one isn't like all the others, it really stands out. This one is not like all the others. What makes it different? Two things: 1) The refractory rate. That's the rate between light pulses. For most of these IPL devices, there's a 2-4 second interval between light pulses, as the device recharges. Since you need to apply many pulses in a treatment session, that can add up. This IPL device, on the other hand, is capable of more than one pulse per second. It's quite easily apparent that this IPL device is faster than most of the others. 2) This IPL auto adjusts intesity based on skin type. 3) This IPL has mechanical spring-loaded wings on the two sides of the flash end, which prevents accidental discharge if the device is not making good contact with your skin. (Safter). Quality doesn't come cheap, and this is priced at the higher end of the spectrum. But you're getting something for that money. Specifics of this IPL device: ** Only performs hair removal. ** NO ICE skin cooling functionality ** No LCD screen. ** Three user-adjustable levels (1,5,10), and auto-adjustment by the device based on skin type ** "Oblong" shaped unit ** The power supply is permanently attached to the IPL device. ** No attachments to change the flash end shape ** Rated for an "unlimited" number of flashes. Operation is trivial: Choose the base level of power (1,5,10). Place the device against your skin. Press the flash button. Using very slow-motion photography, I was able to capture a snapshot of the light (see photos). The light duration is extremely short. You run the tool over the area where you want to remove hair and make sure you expose all the hair follicles in that region. You will not see any immediate results. The light signals your hair to stop growing, but it requires multiple treatments over several weeks before you will be expected to see results. Eventually, you should find a substantial reduction in the hair in the treated areas. In the box, you only get the IPL tool with attached power supply, a short cable that connects the power supply to AC wall power, and a storage sack. That's pretty bare bones as these kits go, but, honestly, you don't really need the cheap sunglasses or disposible razor that are usually tossed in. The wings to the sides of the flash window ensure you don't accidentally flash the unit unless it is in contact with your skin (hence the lack of need for glasses). While this is one of the more expensive IPL devices you'll find on Amazon, it jusities that price with the extremely fast flashing capability, the auto adjustment, and the safety wings. I don't love the ergonomics of the IPL device (I would prefer a "gun" shaped unit), but since you'll be holding it a lot less long, that's probably a reasonable tradeoff. ... show more
