We live in a townhouse and have a small deck that faces west. In the afternoon the sun blazes down, and it's usually too hot to sit outside. We've tried an umbrella which works okay until later afternoon when the sun is lower. I have thought about getting an awning for a while, but the association does not allow attaching anything to the outside of the unit. I found this product, which attaches with tension and needs no hardware to attach it. I've been using it for about a month now and am happy with it. Assembly was more time consuming than I anticipated (and I am an engineer) but it's perfectly doable. For the price the quality is good. The open/close mechanism works easily. It does well in the wind even when left open. If I leave it open at a shallow angle, rain will pool up on it. One small beef; the fabric isn't as darkening as I would like. If I am sitting under it and trying to read a book I still need sunglasses (my eyes are pretty sensitive to sunlight). Overall I am happy. It's exactly what I need for the space. The media could not be loaded. I needed a shade for my potting bench on the pool deck, and this does the job well! Pros: easy enough to set up even by myself, and easy to use Cons : when unfurled, the front edge drops all the way down to the anchor point on the side arms which is inconvenient if I need to get out of the potting area, and don’t leave out out in windy or rainy weather or it will get damaged, possibly irreparably. Extremely easy to assemble and install. I put all the parts together myself in about an hour. It took a second person to raise the polls into place, but overall extremely happy with how simple it was to install and how well it works.
