For being an IT professional of 18~ years, I've never actually had Wi-Fi smart plugs before (just never had a need). That day changed this summer, having two cats now and going on a long vacation with my fiancé. I needed a means to power on some devices for the cats when I wasn't home, as well as some lights (just to make it look like people were home). I found these Wi-Fi plugs here on Amazon. They were incredibly affordable, so I bit the bullet. When they arrived, I was surprised to see they were only 2.4Ghz compatible. I know they are clearly labeled as such. But honestly, I didn't read that. I kind of expected something like this in 2022 to be 5Ghz compatible without needing to even read or worry about that. Still, it is a minor complaint I have about them. Moving on, I found these things awfully difficult to initially setup. I tried to go about setting them up with Alexa first. Alexa had me download the wrong or outdated app by Amysen. I wasted a good hour trying to get them to work, until I realized the poor instructions had a completely different app. The correct app is "Smart Life". Once I got that figured out, I had all the plugs set up, and eventually set them up with Alexa. The app and plugs work great. I don't know what I was missing until having these, I love being able to tell Alexa to turn my lights on and off for work! They seem well built, and had no issues providing power to a small windowed AC unit in our living room as well (just check your amperage). My other complaint about these, they don't seemed to have any type of encryption or security on them at all. I wonder about how easy it would be to hack these plugs, and it is a genuine concern to have. Overall, I do love these plugs, and recommend them. I dock a star largely for the frustrating setup and lack of security. Again, it's 2022 at the time of writing this. I feel something like this should be plug and play, and it seems I had to do a bit of troubleshooting to get them working, and found out I had the wrong app. Just be weary of the 2.4Ghz support and lack of security if buying. Bought a 4 pack and was able to get them set up after some trial and error AND youtube videos. Have had one fail after a couple moths use. The others intermittently stop working and need to be unplugged and reset again. Otherwise they're ok. Worked well with Christmas Lights this past winter.

The model number YX-WS01 is the same as older ones I have, but these do not work with the same "smart life" app as my other older ones. These require the "counter intelligence" app. It doesn't make sense to use same model number and not be the same product. These smart plugs are ok. They work within 20 feet of your router but anything past that they're useless. Setup was fairly simple with a few tweaks.

If you are buying these, like I did, for the alexa integration, don't. 1. They will synch with alexa and they will work, but if you reboot your router, or your internet goes out, or you have lag on your internal network at all (all wireless networks), and they will desynch. 2. The 3rd party app is terrible and there is no way to do it through you pc. I know we all have cell phones, but this is a "smart HOME" product, they cant add a web based control panel you can use from a pc???? thats literally 3 to 6 lines of code. 3. Minor complaint about noise. They have an obnoxious click when they turn on. It is automated but you cant turn it off or down. 2 /5 ... show more
