    • Paint on balls burns off creating a possibly dangerous airborne ash.

The black ceramic balls I received look like the ones advertised. I can only guess that the seller possibly anticipated that buyers would want pitch black balls in their fireplaces so the seller painted the balls black. In the fireplace, under gas heat, the paint burns off and the resulting black ash becomes airborne. The filters in my home’s central heating and cooling turn a fuzzy dark gray to black when I light the gas in my fireplace. I am concerned that my lungs may also look like this now! I have no idea what carcinogenic ingredients may be in the paint or may be activated by the transition from paint to ash. Can you help me with an analysis of this product? ... show more

The look is much better than the old, dusty faux wood. But, the balls will not sit in place without a grid underneath them. I placed an unused but damaged BBQ grill grate on top of the original grate to help position the balls. Suggest a BBQ sear grate with individual pockets to hold them better.
