As a kid, we used to use a deck with no trucks to learn to ollie. Before we tried on wheels. It helped but it never went well. Skater trainers are, in my book, a must have at this point when you're trying to learn basic tricks like an ollie or shove it. Having the ability to use an actual complete and not falling allows you to learn much faster. By reducing roll and getting the right feel when popping the nose up just can't be replicated in a safer way, at least not that I've found. ... show more

My husband got these to "get rad" in the back yard. He was excited about doing kick flips without the board rolling anywhere. They do a good job, they prevent the wheels from turning so its basically just a platform you're on. The kickflips were not all successful, but he certainly had fun. These wheel guards are a great training tool for skaters of any age or skill level. I picked them up for my son who has hurt himself twice practicing tricks on his skateboard despite wearing full pads. These slip on over your wheels and keep the board stationary on any surface, including carpet. They do impact the responsiveness of the board a little bit, but that's not a big deal when you're learning, it actually makes the tricks easier to do without them. This set is thick and the quality is good. They fit my son's wheels with no problem and some room to spare, so I'd say they're a good universal size.
