Description

Easily transport your power scooter or wheelchair anywhere with the Silver Spring Folding Scooter and Wheelchair Carrier. The innovative three-position folding ramp allows you to easily load and unload your scooter onto the carrier. The carrier features a 42" long three-position loading ramp which can be easily folded with the attached handle for tailgate or hatch access. Best of all, with our specially designed hitch attachment, this carrier folds up against the back of your vehicle when not in use to make driving and parking easier. The specialty ergonomically designed spring pin handles included on this mobility carrier make operation incredibly user friendly. These exclusive carrier handles eliminate the difficult standard style pin-rings, allowing users to simply grab and pull when you need to position the loading ramp. Also included with the carrier is an anti-rattle device which slides onto the hitch tube to prevent the rack from wobbling during transportation.

  • Great “rack”
All I will say is wow. SUPER easy to install. SUPER sturdy and best of all the wife likes it on her truck. Will be perfect to help move mower and snowblower without lifting them into the truck. Il will update after I use it for our upcoming vacation. First impression is this thing is phenomenal!!!

  • Works good for me.
Nice that it folds up against the tailgate. It is a little woogety, but I can't hear it from inside. I strap it to the truck, when it isn't loaded.

  • Good value for money
We purchased the carrier for use behind our car when we went on vacation this year. We normally use the pickup for moving the scooter so we needed the carrier for the car. As a carrier, it is built to a price but the quality is above average and much better than what is available at the discount importers here in town but it is still light to light/med duty and the tubing reflects this. It is not designed to carry a train locomotive but for a power chair or power scooter under 200 to 250 pounds (yes it is rated for more than that) it serves well. I stood on the carrier after the scooter was loaded and it still felt OK so it should hold it's rated weight without issue. There are only a few things to assemble as it is nearly complete as shipped. As others have said, the liners for the cutouts in the frame are only loose in the holes so within minutes the first one had fallen out. To save hasle I just removed all the rest at that time. They are not really missed. The unit is easy to use and the folding feature is nice when the platform is not in use with a wheelchair or scooter. Our biggest issue is that we put it on a sedan not a SUV or truck so the carrier was low to the ground after it was loaded and more times than not it drug on the ground when going in and out of driveways etc. Loaded, the back of the carrier was only about 8 inches off the ground but because it extended so far past the rear wheels, the slightest bump or driveway caused it to drag on the ground. If your vehicle is equipped with aftermarket suspension such as HyJackers or air adjustable shocks you then can raise the car to reduce the dragging. Another thing is that it is designed to fit into a 2 inch hitch while most trailer hitches for cars are class 1 and are not big enough to hold the carrier. This caused me the additional trouble of designing and making an adaptor to fit the platform to the hitch. There are commercially made adaptors but they would have caused the platform to stick behind the car another roughly 8 inches, making the drag issue even worse. I would say that if you have average DIY skills and your going to mount the carrier to a SUV or similar vehicle with a 2 inch hitch then this unt should work well for you. The platform is not as nice to use as the power lift we have installed on the pickup truck but then again this platform is only 1/10 the price of the power lift while performing the same job manually. ... show more

  • Good material and easy installation
Put on a 2018 GMC suv just lifted it up and installed 6 bolts and done, didn’t have to take anything loose, less than a hour total time.

  • Seems okay, but get professional install...
The locking options to get it set into the hitch don't look great. When I fold it up, it's lopsided even though it's level when extended. It's really hard to get in and out as it requires bolts to lock and level, so I have to leave it in all the time. I like to use my scooter if possible, but sometimes I need my elec. wheelchair, and I have to bother friends or family to come over and use tools to install/remove. This is necessary because if I have it installed, the backup proximity alarm is triggered at all times. When folded up, it blocks the backup camera. So I want it off unless I'm going to need it, which isn't all the time as I have a lift for my scooter. Also, since there is such a high slope on the ramp, my wheelchair can't make it up with me on it. It's hard to steer by an able-bodied person. There are no sides, so the chair has to be set with tie-downs (more pain). But by far, the worst part is install/removal. It does work like a regular extended platform, so if that's all you need, this would work. Hopefully you'll have better luck with the bolts and the lip of your hitch receiver. ... show more

  • verify. verify. verify. hitch. towing weight. loading.
2nd update to review: I contacted Amazon about the fact that the merchandise couldn't be used safely and they told me to contact the manufacturer, which I did. their site promises 100% customer service. When I called them, they refered me back to Amazon do you can see a viscious cycle. after asking a gentleman to tell me whether what i had ordered would actually work for my vehicle he asked me to send him various pics and info concerning my car. the email response told me to contact Amazon again. I badgered them until they told me that my SUV (not a small car) only had a "tongue weight" of 100 lb. So the video showing it attached to a small car is quite misleading. If you have taken the time to read all of this I wish you good luck if you purchase this rack. EDITED TO ADD: after finally having a new hitch on my SUV and purchasing all necessary equipment (wheelchair cover, tie downs and lock) i finally got the wheelchair loaded but there is no way the trailer can be used! i couldn't even leave the driveway safely. i tried it because i needed the wheelchair for a doctor appointment but it drug the ground even on level ground so there's no way i could travel with it. i have reduced the review to one star and would change it to zero if i could. in short: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! I thought I would be thrilled to use this trailer, but it's been nothing but a huge headache and wish I had never bought it. It has taken me over a month (just missing the refund deadline by 2 days) to get everything installed and verified. 1. check your trailer hitch. I had one on my car (SUV) that I thought would only need an adapter part. NO. It cost me almost $600 to purchase a new hitch and have it installed. So check to make sure you have the correct one. 2. check that your vehicle has the towing capability. According to my owner's manual there is no issue. But because the weight is not evenly distributed over the axle, there is still a question. the dealer advised me to do whatever I am comfortable with. I am almost 70 years old so it really makes me anxious. especially on the interstates. Here the speed limit is 80 MPH. I am nervous driving my car on the interstate even without the carrier attached. 3. The video shows a lady loading a scooter onto the rack. you should never ride the scooter/wheelchair onto the ramp. instead you should use the power of the device. The video shows the rack attached to a small crossover vehicle loading a scooter. it looks so easy. I own a full size SUV which sits higher than the car in the video. I also have a powered wheelchair, which the model I have uses a larger center wheel to drive the chair and the smaller wheels on the front and back have no power to them. Because my car sits higher, the ramp has a steeper incline. I had huge difficulties trying to load it so I called the wheelchair service technician who made a trip to my home to inform me of the issue with the drive wheel and told me that I had to use more speed to make the center tire grab onto the ramp and aid in the steeper incline. when i loaded it the first time i opened the ramp and attempted to load the wheelchair. I ended up running the front two wheels off the ramp because of the speed needed. I backed the chair down the ramp. the bracket holding the ramp was bent and wouldn't lock even if I had been able to get the chair loaded. The end of the ramp was on the most level area I could find. there aren't many in utah. I'm not sure what caused the bracket to bend. It is much thinner metal than the rest of the rack so it could have been the speed or the uneven ground. but I was lucky that I was home and not traveling where I couldn't get assistance with it. 4. in the video shown there is no twisting of the rack. My SUV is higher so when I finally did get my wheelchair loaded the rack was twisted on the tongue of the hitch which left it quite wobbly. I still feel anxious taking it out on the road and even more so because I will be traveling out of state by myself. I thought I was going to gain independence that I lost years ago. but after spending over $1000 for the rack, cover for the chair, having the hitch changed out on my car (mine had a 2inch ball on it) straps to secure the wheelchair and locks , etc. I think I may have made a mistake. On a much minor issue: I imagine the ramp being on the passenger side is considered safer. But where I live there are few streets where the ramp is needed to unload on the passenger side. Most parking lots have the option for vans to unload on either side and in my driveway it would be much easier to have it on the same side as the driver, eliminating either going into the neighbor's yard or having to walk back and forth around the vehicle to unload groceries, etc. this has been quite lengthy but I wish someone had pointed this out before I spent so much money and now may be too anxious to use it. it has taken me over a month to get everything purchased, installed so I could even try to use it. To date, I haven't even had it on the rack long enough to leave my driveway and I missed the return window by actually 1 day. I hope that I can actually get it loaded, strapped down and take a short trip to be sure that I can use it. to avoid headaches, anxiety and ending in the poorhouse with nothing to show for it, -please do your research and verify everything to make certain you can use it when it arrives. ... show more
