I use this in my loaf pans now instead of parchment paper. Parchment paper is great but it's also so wasteful when I'm baking sourdough on a regular basis.

Full disclosure: I thought this would work in more settings than it strictly does, so it hasn't actually been used. I can tell you about fit and application, though, and having used plenty of silpat-type mats in my time, I would assume if you have the right application, it will work just fine. It feels and looks exactly like a silicone mat should. This might work in a round Dutch oven for a very dry bread, but not necessarily for all breads. It will absolutely work in the oval one, provided that it's the right size (see below). There is no universe in which this will work in a regular bread pan unless the long side is longer than the wide part of this piece and the short side is wider than the tails. Otherwise you're getting a wadded up mess. (Think plain parchment paper - you have to cut the corners to make it lay flat, and you obvs don't want to cut up your mat. Or maybe you do, if you've got a pan that will work perfectly with modification and won't likely use it in other pans. I'm not judging.) Dimensions would really be valuable in determining whether this will work for you, and the seller really dropped the ball here. The whole thing is about 24"x6.25" (measured at widest part). The center section is about 9.4ish"x6.25". The tails are about 3"x7" (really just over 3", so maybe 3 1/8"), and the holes are just a tick over 1.25" in diameter. ... show more

This is an awesome "tool" for making bread! It makes it so easy to lift a loaf of bread out of a dutch oven or even a regular bread pan. Makes a great gift for the bread baker in your life. I recommend.

This worked great for an oval loaf, but not for round. I was hoping it would still fit but it didn't. I did still have to use a lot of flour too. Overall it works great for ovals

These handles are each 8.75”long. That makes a great difference in leverage when trying to maneuver a heavy loaf of bread out of a pan. The holes for your fingers are nice too. The composition of this material is thicker and less stretchy than the usual silicone slings making it less likely to tear or pull away from you.
