Doing cedar clapboard siding solo.....try hanging a 16 foot clap by yourself...yes it's light, yes it's easy to move around but if you want it level you need to nail one end and then level and then nail the middle then the other end....can't hold a 16 foot clap with one hand, nailer in the other and keep everything aligned. The media could not be loaded. This siding tool has been a real game-changer for my home renovation project. It's like having an extra set of hands, holding the cement boards steady while I nail them in place. The adjustable spacing feature is pretty nifty - I've been able to get consistent gaps between boards without constantly measuring. It's sturdy enough to hold a full 12-foot board, which is impressive for a plastic tool. The rubber grip is a nice touch, hasn't left any marks on my pre-painted siding. Installation is pretty straightforward once you get the hang of it - took me a few tries to get the rhythm down, but now it's smooth sailing. It's definitely made the job quicker, and I've been able to work solo instead of calling in favors from friends. Now for the downsides - it can be a bit fiddly to adjust the spacing, especially with gloves on. The clamp is strong, but I've had it slip a couple times on particularly warped boards. And while it's great for straight runs, it's not much help around windows or corners. The plastic feels durable, but I'm a bit worried about how it'll hold up to long-term UV exposure if I store it outside. If you're tackling a siding project on your own and don't mind a bit of a learning curve, this tool could save you a lot of time and frustration. Four days after the return window !!! I finally started repairing the rotting header over the garage door. Got to the Hardie siding and find out these gauges are total garbage. Look at the picture, they're two different designs. Both are set for 6" exposure. One sets at 6" and the other sets at 6-1/8" !!! I'm retired after 35 years building custom homes, I've always done Hardie with two guys and homemade gauges. DO NOT PURCHSE THIS GARBAGE. These are going in the trash where they belong. ... show more

The top pulls away from the board if it is locked tightly. It will not slide down if the top board is laid on it, so take your time an adjust the lock, it will work well.
