Excellent reel for the money. It was easy to set up and cast very far and very smooth. Once set up "correctly", had no problems with backlash even in the wind with light tackle. I ordered the 151XT and unfortunately couldn't get used to the left hand retrieve, but figured I cast with my right so why not try a left hand. Not. Returned the reel, received my refund within an hour of them receiving it, and immediately reordered the 150HG. Unfortunately, it won't be here until Mar 1-2. If you've used cheap baitcasters and could never get it to work every time without eventually bird nesting and driving you insane then you need to spend a little more and get this reel. Mine is spooled with 15lb braid and a 50lb braid backer and on setting 2 it casts perfectly each time. The few times that anything did happen was nothing near back lash. A couple of wraps of line would stand up and thats it. Cleared out in 2 seconds and back to fishing. I have mine on a 6th Sense FLUX 7'3 rod and I can sling it 40 - 50 yards every time with no backlash. If you've always wanted a good baitcaster that won't drive you crazy or break the bank than this is the one you need. Oh and it makes that cool sound when you cast haha. ... show more

    • West Florida Inshore Guy's First Baitcaster
After a couple youtube lessons I have only had a couple minor backlashes & the cast/drag system is phenomenal. I caught a freight train of a jack this past weekend and the drag was able to put him in the boat within 15 minutes. I paired this with a fenwick rod and it is a perfect set up for pitching structure for giants around my area. ... show more

    • Perfect for the Spin-to-Baitcast transition
It stinks that this is the perfect "learning baitcaster" because its not in the entry level price range. But man oh man did this make going from spinning reels to bait casters so much easier. For a while, i would bring my baitcaster and two spinning rods on my kayak. Id use the baitcaster until i got a huge birdsnest that i couldnt clear then switch. With this reel, i finally could make it a full day without getting the dreaded birdsnest. I could finally plan on using this rod the whole day without having to switch out due to my own learning curve. This is the perfect reel for someone interested in making the switch. It takes a financial commitment but now i find i can use the cheaper, more birds nest prone baitcasters with minimal issue. I'll continue to improve with the baitcaster but the SLX gave me the confidence to stick with my baitcasting rod for the whole day amd no longer bring my back up spinning reel setup. ... show more
