Description

The Teric from Shearwater Research of Canada is a full technical dive computer with recreational divers in mind. The Teric includes open-circuit and closed- circuit Air, Nitrox and Trimix multi-gas functionality along with a three-axis tilt-compensated digital compass. It has Recreational, Gauge, Freediving, Open-Circuit Tech and Closed-Circuit/Bail-Out modes. The Teric is also very configurable; for example you can set a button to give you a single press access to different tools like compass, stopwatch, countdown timer, etc. There are haptic (vibration) and audible alarms that can be disabled (none, either, both) to prevent annoying other divers in the vicinity. The Teric offers an information screen utilizing a {1.39 in | 35 mm} full color AMOLED display with a {Diameter x Height | 55mm x 18mm} body and {4.25 oz | 120.4 g} weight. The Teric can provide time-to-surface based on 'look ahead' at planned gas switches. Multiple gas definition presets are supported with any combination of oxygen, nitrogen and helium. The Teric will NOT "lockout" after a missed stop or ascent rate violation. After the dive, the Teric communicates via Bluetooth to connect with the Shearwater Cloud dive log manager, which is compatible with MS Windows, OS X, iOS and Android devices, supporting wireless log downloads and firmware updates. The Teric supports hoseless gas pressure integration, sometimes called air integration (AI). The Teric is capable of wirelessly connecting to either one or two optional transmitters giving the diver ability to monitor up to two tank pressures. It is also capable of calculating the Gas Time Remaining (GTR) on one assigned tank. Air integration is optional for all modes, from OC Rec to CC/BO. The tank pressure(s), in PSI or BAR, and GTR can be displayed to the customizable slots on the main display screen or accessed through the underlying information screens.

So far, on around 20 dives this dive computer/watch has performed flawlessly and it looks great - very masculine. I have had a few people comment on it and ask questions which is a good sign. So far, the transmitter has also worked flawlessly. My only request, which is super minor, would be to spend more time and resources on a better dive log user interface. Best dive watch I have owned. 513 dives in my log. Only one on this one. I am a gear minimalist, hence me looking for a watch with integrated air, and compass. Been through 4-5 digital compasses. Each one has failed me. Stuck with my Ares IA dive watch, long past it’s “expiration date”… I.e. long past the company stopped making that dive watch. Did some internet research, skeptically bought this IA dive watch. Just took my first set of two dives…. All I can say is.. zero problems, IA was amazingly easy to set up. I think my wife was a little jealous. The highlight was the compass. I have never found a digital UW compass so easy to use, accurate, and reliable. This watch did what any diver would want. I boosted my confidence that I can rely on my equipment for situational awareness, and packs many layers of that, into a great form factor, barely bigger than a normal watch. ... show more

    • Very Intuitive and GREAT Customer Service!
I ordered 2 Shearwater Terics with transmitters on Oct. 1st and received them on Oct. 8th. I placed them as separate orders as I wanted my wife to select what color computer she wanted (blue), I went with silver. As I continued to do research on these I saw some postings that if you are going to be diving with someone who will be nearby who also has a Teric, you should have different color transmitters. As my wife is my dive buddy, I checked the transmitters and they were both grey. I figured this out on October 13th and here's the rub--We were leaving for a dive trip to Cozumel on Oct. 17th. I filled out the customer service form on the Shearwater site and was very promptly contacted by Ed Ludlow. I called him and explained the situation. He then contacted Michele Morton of DIVE Tronics, the Authorized USA Service Center for Shearwater Research. The quick answer was, "Yes, we will swap out your grey transmitter with a yellow one and we will do it with 2-day UPS, so it will be there on Thursday". True to their word, it arrived on Thursday, 2 days before our trip. All interactions were very professional and positive. I did not have to pay for the 2-day shipping either, they covered it. I just paid to return the grey one. Outside of the great reviews for the Teric one of the other reasons I chose one was the reputation Shearwater Research has for phenomenal customer service. Shearwater completely delivered on solving the issue. My wife and I found using the Teric to be very intuitive and I liked being able to see what PSI her tank was at when she was next to me. I found I could pick up her transmitter if she was within about 6 feet or so from me. I found the colors on the computer face to be bright and very visible. Setup and programming was easy. Even better was downloading our dives via bluetooth to our mobile phones each night, using the Shearwater app. Overall, we are very pleased with our Terics, transmitters, and the phenominal customer service provided by Shearwater. ... show more
