I must say the Shark HP102 was not my first choice. I wanted the Shark HP152 air purifier, but after trying (unsuccessfully) to find the replacement filter for the HP 152, I decided to just go ahead and get this one. I was able to easily find the replacement filters so I ordered the air purifier and extra filters together. The unit and filters arrived in 2 days, neatly and securely packaged. The air purifier came with set up instructions that were very easy to understand. There is also a manual you can download for more in depth instructions. I set it on "auto" and it's been on, (I think?.. because it's so quiet) doing its thing for 3 days. It took about 2 hours to bring my air quality up to 100%. (In appx 540 sq. ft area) Since then of course, the air quality varies- depending upon what is going on in the household, like cooking etc. It appears to be very sensitive to changes in air quality and reacts accordingly. The display readout is nicely arranged and user friendly. The fan settings (4) range from lowest, "I can't hear it- is it even running?" to highest, which is no louder than a normal household fan. I mainly wanted an air purifier because no matter how often I dusted, my house was still dusty... I am extremely happy with the results! I know it's only been 3 days so far, but there is just no dust anywhere! I am very satisfied with my purchase and would recommend it. ... show more

Ive had my shark for a little over 5 months. I leave it on in my bedroom in the evening and at night and by the time i go to bed it usually at 96% clean so the power is reduced automatically to save on filter use so the noise is just a low hum. You can turn off the machines light to help you sleep also. Recently it did not move from 0% so i ran a vacuum brush accross the sensors in back to clean them, and thats all it needed. It once again filters correctly. I didnt think this machine was cleaning much out of the air but when i pulled the filter out a few days ago to have a look, it was covered with dust that i would have been breathing.     • Automatic sensor does not detect dust, erroneously reads "100% clean air"

The sensor only ever seems to read as less than "100% clean air" when there's smoke, like if we burn something on the stove. If run in Auto mode, that's the only time it will kick on. It seems incapable of detecting ordinary everyday dust. It will claim the air is 100% clean (and, if left in Auto Mode, basically shut itself off) even where there are dust particles visible in the air (as revealed by, for example, a bright flashlight beam). If you want it to actually suck dust out of the air most of the time, you'll need to run it in manual mode at Max or 3/4 power. Auto mode can't be trusted to actually filter out dust. It still gets 4 stars because as long as you run it in manual mode and don't trust the sensor there's nothing wrong with it. It does run more or less silently at 3/4 power or below, and at Max it is still reasonably quiet. ... show more

I have a Dyson air purifier that has the heater but wanted another one so I didn't have to move that around the house. This one works very well, and unlike my Dyson this has a display showing the air quality. We have pets (2 dogs, 1 cat) and have noticed a huge difference in our allergies using the air purifiers. It also pulls cooking smells out of the air quickly. The auto mode is a nice feature, and I like the nighttime mode that turns off the display. ... show more
