I bought this for my daughter (7) who wanted to get into fishing. Perfect rod size for her to learn on before I start upgrading her to more dependable equipment. Easy to use. Be careful though, the push button will break if it slips off its hinges and you press too hard.

This is a nice little fishing rod. I bought it to use as a cat toy - tie a catnip mouse to the line and send it out through the living room while watching TV. The small rod is good for indoor use and the cat loves to chase the mouse. Its actually a capable casting rod and reel and you can drop the mouse pretty accurately. I think it would be an excellent introduction to angling for a young person. Both rod and reel seem to be well made, the line seems to be pretty low test though. ... show more

We had a Moana reel that gave out after 13 years and wanted a similar replacement. This one has line that is far too light for little ones to handle. Each time my 3yr old cast the reel creates extreme extra line unlike the Moana. I compared to the Moana and the filament line is much finer. Too fine in fact.
