This little fishing pole is adorable! While I’m sure it would be perfect for a child; I actually purchased the Moana version (with the fish attachment) to use as a cat toy. This is an excellent pole for a beginner child! I bought it for my 6 year old daughter . Let her practice with the plastic Shakespeare Fish that comes with it . Took her fishing with minimal instructions and she caught two fish within minutes . Our next outing she caught 3 ! I would highly recommend this for your kid. I put on a small hook with live worms and also tried powerbait worms . I added two split shots (weights) about 6-12 inches from the hook when we fished in a lake where she caught her biggest fish. I only used one split shot and a small grub and let her go at it when we fished in a creek where she caught 4 fish. ... show more

I attach cat toys to it and play inside and outside with my cats. It works great in a big room or down the hallway and my cats love to run after it.

My granddaughter loved it. Disney theme characters on fishing rods are a great idea to get kids into fishing. Had to return 1st rod, handle was broken when received.

Works dam well! Easy to fix user issues! Lasted over a year so far. My daughter caught 4 Sunny's a small bass and a 5 lbs bass. The 5 pounder did not snap the rod or line! I did have to pull by hand once fish breeched water. The rod is strong the reel is not. My daughter loves this Moana rod and so do I. ... show more

    • Is an actual fishing pole for small kids with an attractive design.
Can really be used although doesn't come with any accessories. A 3 to 5 year old could actually cast into stream. Perhaps even a plastic hook that wouldn't catch anything but would be safe to bait. Of course like any reel the line can tangle.

For my two year old, it’s great. It’s a little on the cheap side, but she’s having fun and it actually casts pretty well. Great at the pond or our back yard.
