    • Good for the money, but not the best for a casual, temporary set-up
I needed a continuous lighting kit for my eBay business and for producing YouTube videos. This kit works great. It's easy to set up, provides plenty of light, and the quality seems good for the price. My one complaint is that it's not very convenient for repeatedly setting up and taking down. I don't have a dedicated studio. When I need to shoot photos or video, I set up a backdrop and lighting in my basement living room. When I'm done, I tear everything down and put it away. Unfortunately, I didn't realize that these lights have to be stored with the bulbs removed. The bulbs are somewhat fragile, and come in cardboard boxes with styrofoam inserts. Every time I set up (once or twice a week), I have to carefully screw the bulbs in (you're supposed to only touch the base and avoid touching the bulbs themselves). When I tear down, I have to carefully unscrew the bulbs and put them back in the styrofoam inserts and cardboard boxes, which don't really seem sturdy enough for repeated storage use. These lights would be much better suited for a permanent studio set-up, however I imagine most people who buy them likely don't have a dedicated studio space. I'll probably keep using them until I can afford LED panels, which are sturdier and easier to store when not in use. Again, this is my only reason for leaving four stars.     • Great kit for the price!
This is a great softbox lighting kit for the money. You get two for fairly cheap price! I used this for shooting a documentary-style interview. It worked great. So great, in fact, that I only needed on of them because the light was so bright. I used the other softbox to actually absorb light on the opposite side of the subject by putting a black sheet over it to get that Rembrandt lighting. :) The lighting came out great with just using a cellphone as a camera. The only thing I noticed is that the materials are kind of cheap. The stands are super light! Make sure you get sandbags to weigh them down. If you are angling the lights overhead, sandbags are a must. Otherwise, no complaints. No extra lightbulb comes with this kit so beware! Don't touch the bulbs with your hands as the oil from your hands can cause the light to burn out quicker. Overall, would buy again. Not sure how long the lights will last, but hopefully they will hold up for a while. ... show more

These lights have potential. The brightness is good and they provide ample light when working as expected. However, the light bulb fell out of the socket after a couple uses. The design of these lights is inherently flawed. You will eventually have the same issues. I have never unscrewed the bulbs or replaced them. The set is also still very new, so there is no reason the bulb should have come off. The build quality is absolutely abysmal. For some background: I keep the lights stored, full assembled in my home studio space. They never get moved or bumped. They stay in same place at all times. However, when I went to plug them in today, I noticed that one of the light bulbs fell out of its socket. Fortunately the soft box cover caught the bulb. I went to reattach the bulb and noticed that a small circular metal piece had also detached from the socket. No matter what I tried, I could not get the bulb back into the socket. The problem lies in the small metal piece that came off. The metal piece is what the bulb screws into and it secures the bulb to the socket. Unfortunately, this piece is not fastened into the socket that well. After time, the metal piece became disconnected from the socket. This caused the light bulb to fall out. This is not user error. It is a design flaw. If I were you, I would avoid these lights and purchase a set that would last longer. ... show more

Fantastic product for the price. Good quality, light, and easy to put together. The lightbulbs that come with it are also great and the lighting is phenomenal. The results are easy to see in photos. I saw a youtube video about making cheap copies of the Aputure 120D and I ordered the led strip from Amazon and was looking for two 14 inch aluminum cake pans; but they were $25 to $35 each. This all was getting more than I wanted to spend, plus I still needed to by clamps and stands...and of course fabric to cover the pans...and then, the 'inspiration' came to me: I saw this soft box set for under $50, so I ordered it and put the led strips around the insides and, voila! I have2 cheap copies Aputure 120D's for around $60 with dimmers! ... show more

I'm a professional photographer but I needed some cheap lighting to use off site for Santa pictures. I didn't want to invest in my normal caliber of equipment so I gave these lights a try. I’ve been using these lights for a few months now to film YouTube videos and they’ve been great. People often think I paid a lot more for the set than I actually did. The one small issue I have is the tripod legs themselves are somewhat unstable especially when the boom arm is extended to the max. I’ve had the light topple over a few times after someone barely grazed it. You can easily remedy this however by not over-extending the arms too far out.
