🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The LimoStudio Photography Photo Portrait Studio Light Kit is praised as a budget-friendly and versatile lighting solution. It includes four umbrellas, three stands, and three bulbs, making for an easy-to-use setup for beginners. Users appreciate the light quality and the convenience of the accompanying carry case. However, some note that its light stands could be more sturdy and the lights may be less powerful compared to other sets.

Pros

  • 📸 Cost-effective choice for beginner photographers and streamers.
  • 📸 Easy set up with an included carrying case for maximum convenience.
  • 📸 Provides adequate lighting for such fields as product photography, video blogging, and portrait photography.
  • 📸 Good quality and sturdy diffusers.

Cons

  • 😕 The stands could be of higher quality, as they are reported to be lightweight and could tip over easily.
  • 😕 Illumination strength may be insufficient for some users, especially for larger groups or wider spaces.
  • 😕 The bag does not fit everything comfortably, making packing up a bit tricky.
  • 😕 The lights may get hot after some use, requiring a cool-down period.

Should I Buy It?

Yes, if you are a beginner in fields like photography, streaming, or video blogging and looking for an affordable and user-friendly lighting solution. It offers decent performance and decent quality for its price range, although it might not meet the requirements of more demanding, professional setups. Make sure to handle the equipment gently and mind the light quality based on your specific usage.

  • OUTSTANDING value and great performance (if you understand their limits)
Style: 1. Umbrella / 1200W
The LimoStudio Photography Photo Portrait Studio 600W Daylight Umbrella Continuous Lighting Kit is an OUTSTANDING value. I am very pleased with the performance of this set, and given the very low price point (~$45), I was not expecting it to be this good. WHAT YOU GET The package includes TWO umbrellas, TWO approximately 7' tall telescopic/folding light stands, ONE approximately 3.5' tall telescopic/folding light stand, three 45W CFL bulbs, a fabric case for holding the bulbs, and a long fabric case for storing the stands when folded up. WHAT IT'S GOOD FOR This set is ideal for setting up an indoor portrait or video blogging studio. If you have a camera with a fast lens (f1.7 - 2.8), these lights are perfectly adequate for achieving a perfect exposure at ISO 200 and using normal film recording shutter speeds (1/60). If you need greater depth of field, have a slower lens (and are unwilling to raise to a higher ISO to compensate), or wish to illuminate groups of people (more than 3), the lights may be underpowered without additional supplemental lighting or swapping in a higher intensity bulb. The umbrellas do an excellent job of diffusing/softening the light, and creative positioning (moving them closer or further from the subject) gives reasonably good control over exposure results, reflections, etc. WHO SHOULD BUY IT - People who don't mind filming/photographing their subject matter with a mid-range (~50mm) or zoom (70+mm) lens. (Since the umbrellas need to be close to your subject to provide good light, wide angle lenses will require you to set up your camera very close to the subject to keep the umbrellas out of the frame.) - Individuals who want good lighting to improve the quality of their YouTube videos. - Parents who want to set up a small indoor studio for taking portraits of their children. - Individuals who want good, diffused area lighting for product shots or product review videos. - Anyone who wants an affordable lighting solution to make a small space (approx. 8' x 8') as bright as day, with nice diffused light (not harsh shadows). WHAT IT'S NOT GOOD FOR - People who want to film/photograph subjects using a wide angle lens while the camera is positioned more than three feet back from the illuminated main subject. - Large groups of people. I suspect you could use this to light a family of 5 for a portrait with everyone positioned in closely, but really, you need the lights close to your subject and for groups larger than 3, you'd be much better served (and less confined) with a brighter set of bulbs. - Strong directional lighting. Umbrellas diffuse light very well for pleasing colors and gentle sculpting (soft or minimal shadows); however, if you want strong directional lighting that can be controlled for more dramatic effects (especially for stronger and more directional shadows), you would be better served with a softbox setup. - Large spaces. At only 45W, you will need these umbrella lights to be within arm's reach (approx. 3') of your subject to get adequate illumination. If you're setting up a large studio or using a wide angle lens that shows more than a couple of feet of space to either side of your subject, you will find it very difficult to get adequate light while still keeping the umbrellas out of the frame. - Serious enthusiasts who plan to move this studio lighting often from location to location. While the construction/durability of this kit is plenty adequate for a dedicated studio or infrequent moves, it probably will not stand up to the added rigors of being packed up, thrown around, and moved from place to place on a regular basis. OTHER NOTES At this price point, it should not surprise you that the stands are not heavy duty. That said, they are more than adequate to perform admirably well for years and years. Just keep in mind that the knobs and friction collars are PLASTIC so take care NOT to overtighten them. Also, handle the stands and umbrellas gently. If you don't abuse them or bang them around, I think you'll get a lot of use out of this kit. ... show more

  • Great light set for those on a budget
Style: 1. Umbrella / 1200W
I'm a bit above an amateur photographer, but in general I'm a natural light photographer so I haven't had the need to invest much in lights. I have a couple remote flashes and trigger that I've been able to make work for some indoor shooting. As I needed to take better pictures of my paintings, I finally decided I needed to invest in a light kit. Something like this can cause hundreds or even thousands, which I just didn't want to do. I figured a small investment in the LimoStudio kit would either do the trick or convince me I needed to make a bigger investment. No need to keep you guessing - this set gets the job done. I included a photo of how I set the lights up to photograph a fairly reflective painting. I turned off all other lights (at night) and aimed the Limo lights towards the ceiling to bounce the light rather than point directly at the painting. This lit up the painting enough to where I was able to take a good picture without glare and at a reasonable exposure. Other reviewers have said the lights aren't very bright. I did not find that to be the case. In fact, if I had a light and a half, it would have worked perfect for me. Instead, one light was not quite bright enough and two lights was almost too much. No need to even bring in the third. Judging from photos from a few other reviewers, it looked like they were using this light set in combination with either natural light or other lights and even without the umbrellas. With so many competing lights it would be tough to manage. The tripods and swivel connectors aren't great quality, but they get the job done. The umbrellas are fairly thin, but they work fine ultimately. I had the tripods fully extended and they didn't have any tipping issues as some suggested. I wouldn't use these outside though. The cases aren't high quality, but again, they work. I like that the bulbs are meant to be stowed in their original packaging in the included bag so they will be pretty well protected. I appreciate the lights have long cords so I have a lot of flexibility in placement. All told, this set does everything it needs to at a great price. I don't know how well it will hold up over time, but I'm not too worried about it for a relatively small investment. ... show more
