    • If it is sturdy enough for an 14 month old to play with, it should be handle a heavy scoop of ice.
What I liked about it was that it had a telescope handle to make it long enough to scoop ice out of a quite big hole in the ice.

When I opened the package and I had to snap the scoop onto the handle I was skeptical. It is not ice fishing season yet, so I dunked it in water and put it in my 0 def F freezer overnight. The handle still twisted and adjusted, so that was great. The scoop was still a little pliable and would flex with out breaking - a common issue with plastic scoops. So those 2 things earned it the 4 stars. However, then I tapped it a couple times on my heal like a do with my other ones to knock the ice off, and the scoop snapped off the handle. There is not much plastic there and cold plastic is brittle plastic. So some scrap aluminum I have laying around and a couple pop rivets and it will be in my ice fishing bucket, but it missed the mark just a little. If you are always in a heated shanty it may be fine, but cold weather is it's weakness, which kind of defines ice fishing ... show more

    • Great portable, lightweight scoop to keep your hole clean!
Although I haven't been able to use it yet, I know what I need in a scoop. I prefer a plastic scoop over a metal one, as they shed the ice easier, and if you set it down, it doesn't get frozen to the ice as easily as a metal scoop would. Also, being that I have to haul everything out to my shanty, the lighter and more compact things are, the better. Except for the scoop and the grips, this is made of lightweight aluminium, which slides into itself, which makes it both lightweight and compact. If you ice fish, you know what a pain it can be to keep your hole clean if you don't have a scoop, and this one does it very well, and at a good price point. Would recommend to anyone who needs one for their hole! ... show more

Unless your hands don't feel the cold, everyone needs an ice scooper when ice fishing. I like the idea of an extendable handle because there are times when I just don't feel like bending over to perform this endless job on the ice. Some people can tolerate a lot of slush in the hole but I'm not one of those people. I like to get ALL the slush out of the hole so I can see the fish coming up and not have anything in the way when I pull the fish out. The orange scoop is removable and just under 6" in diameter. This will allow the unit to scoop most any augured hole you might be using on the ice. I would not that the scoop on the unit I received does not stay attached very well and I am concerned that it will fall off the shaft at some point. These things do get used regularly to also help scoop the fish out of the hole. I plan to use a screw to secure the orange scoop to the blue shaft. The Blue handle is adjustable which is a nice feature for personalizing the fit and also for storage and packing the unit out and off the ice. The overall length can be adjusted with a quick spin of the black plastic "knobs " on the shaft from about 13" to just under 28". Easy to use and a great tool to have on the ice. ... show more

I ordered this product because I am a rockhound. Rockhounds like to look for interesting rocks, minerals, and even fossils on a variety of terrains. Water is a huge place to score treasures! A few people have gone ahead and made devices similar to this with PVC and a slotted kitchen spoon. Scoop a rock or two and drain it while bringing it up to a manageable level. I had been working on finding the right materials when this beauty came along. The orange basket is wide and curved to prevent things from falling out. I have a horrible back, so the extendable handle is essential. I almost wish it was as long as a golf club. That would be perfect - interchangeable basket sizes and different lengths. If you have a need for it in your life, go for it! ... show more

The pole on this scoop and the twist connections are fairly light weight, but the connectors allow the pole to telescope properly and seem to fasten it in place tightly. The plastic scoop does not come attached to the pole....you have to pop it on yourself. - You have to push it on, over a retaining bump, until it clicks in place. - It's a fairly tight fit, and there's not much give, so it takes some force. (In the picture, you will see a small, light area near the base of the orange plastic scoop. - That is from stress to the plastic while trying to pop the scoop in place.) I kept thinking something was going to break while I was pushing (forcing) it in place, but it eventually went on and nothing broke. (It's never coming off, though!) I think this will work well for its intended purpose. ... show more
