My wife is the gardener in our house so she did the testing on this Idealife Seed Starter. First the good: With five trays, you can start 60 seedlings at the same time. The trays are sturdy enough to be used multiple times. Easy to clean. Good access to the water wells. You can adjust the humidity using the ventilation vents. The covers are high enough for tall seedlings. The lights are multi-spectrum. The control unit is good if you want all the seedlings to have the same lighting conditions. Now the not so good: You can't have different lighting conditions for different plants. In any event, there isn't enough light once the seedlings germinate. You need a grow light or sunlight. The extra control cords get in the way if you aren't using all five trays. The instructions don't explain how to set the "lights-on" timer to different durations. ... show more

    • Plastic is a little thin, but should hold up with care
I have high hopes for starting some seeds I am collecting from my plants, in the spring. I really only grow flowers and have just discovered that some of my flowers, like cannas and calla lilies, develop seeds that I may be able to grow into plants. Since I winter over my plants and store bulbs in the basement, in order to also start seeds there, I needed a seed starting system with lights to accomplish this. I checked out all of the features of this system and how the lights functioned and it looks like as long as I don’t neglect my (hopefully) plant babies, this system will give me the best chances for success. I like that there is a timer to the lights and that you can adjust the brightness. I like the little tools that came with the system. I was worried about being able to get the seedlings out of the wells of the tray without damaging the trays or the plants. One of the tools is a small scoop that fits into that well to help put soil in and be able to lift the plant out. I do like the way the system is designed with a tray within a tray. The plastic is a little thin, but with care, I think it will hold up. ... show more

I cannot wait until the winter so I can use this new seed starter tray! I grew up working at a nursery, so I'm used to starting my seeds in January and February. I set this set up and everything worked very well. You don't have to turn the lights on and off every day because it has a timer. The plastic trays are actually sturdier than I thought they would be. I would expect to get 3 to 4 years out of them. This set is made in China. I hope my review was helpful!! ... show more

    • I was pleased with how fast the seeds sprouted, but the lights aren't that bright.
The trays are plastic, and kind of cheap. You have to be careful when transplanting if you want to reuse the plastic inserts. The LED lights work, and the timer feature is nice, but these are definitely better used to supllement the light. They are too dim to really provide full light. Your seedlings may get a little spindly if you keep them under these lights too longs. Great for starting your garden veggies indoors! ... show more

These boxes are a little thinner than I thought they would be - I was thinking they would be hard plastic, and be re-usable for a long time. They are much thinner - think sushi takeout container thickness or just a bit thicker. (If you are familiar with mfg processes, they are definitely vacu-formed and not extrusions) Feels like they would be good for maybe 2-3 seasons. Wow! It’s a whole garden in a kit! This Plant Propagation Station with Grow Light is perfect for someone just getting into gardening indoors. There are 5 sets of everything: 12-celled trays with water escape holes for planting, base trays to hold the cells and catch the water, a dome to trap moisture in each separate container unit, and inserts on the top of the domes that allow for timed lighting.
