  • I thought I was getting the best... I Guess not?!
Style: PRIME TX (new) Size: 1000W
I was so excited to install the Seasonic Prime Tx-1000 into my fresh new build! I thought...Excellent tech. reviews... a 12 year warranty... Power headroom if I decide to do full liquid cooling later... and it's a Seasonic! That excitement lasted 2 weeks. I got my build together 2 weeks ago, powered it up, it p.o.s.t. 'ed, and I never thought I would be having to replace the power supply before 2030 at the earliest. I was playing the new Assasins Creed game and life was good... and "Poof" the whole computer shutdown. I have 15+ years of computer building and troubleshooting experience. My shiny new power supply is DEAD! I'm praying that it didn't take out anything else! I've always used Cooler Master power supplies in my builds... I thought "I'm gonna splurge a little and go for the top of the line". /smh. I've decided to completely bypass the RMA process with Seasonic after reading the reviews from others that have. I'm not paying the shipping to RMA a "Brand New" faulty product. Luckily Amazon is amazing and I got a full refund. Availability of products is REALLY limited in that power range... so I guess I'll be rolling the dice again? I can state as a fact that it WILL NOT be a Seasonic. • Not the legendary Seasonic PSU I expected
Style: PRIME PX (new) Size: 850W
I feel compelled to write a review on the Seasonic Prime 850W Platinum PSU. Quick history, I own the following power supplies. All of them work perfectly, and are still in use today. They are all in boxes that run 24/7 365 with downtime only for maintenance. These are all power supplies that are 10 or nearing 10 years old. Zero issues. Seasonic M12II 620W Bronze (2011) Corsair 650HX (2010) Super Flower 550 (???) Unfortunately the Seasonic M12II was causing some lights to flicker on my new system during load. So I decided it was time to upgrade the PSU to something worth of the system: 3950x with a 5700xt. I turned to Seasonic because it has always been the gold standard of power supplies. The Prime 850 arrived, and everything looked great. Its a power supply, plug it in, and supply power. I don't care if it looks pretty, the fan comes on or off, blah blah blah cable management, seriously I don't care. The most important factor to me is 1. It works 2. It works reliably. Unfortunately the Prime 850W is a piece of crap. Immediately after installing the power supply the system became unstable. If you boot it up and left it at the login in screen, it would sometimes crash when the system tries to set the display to standby. Occasionally when navigating through menus the system would crash too. Literally the system would just reboot, no error. Checking the Windows event logs show no errors or warning prior to the reboot. No indication of what was going on. For two weeks I struggled with a highly erratic and unstable computer. I went through countless troubleshooting steps, checking bios setting, reflashing bios, reseating memory, checking power connections, pulling cards, checking OS power/sleep settings. Finally, I gave up and pulled the Prime 850W and put the M12II back into the box. Now the system is perfectly stable. This leads me to believe the Prime 850W was the issue, especially considering this all started happening in a system that was perfectly stable ONLY after the Prime 850W was installed. Suffice to say, I'm surprised by Seasonic. I read several reviews that raved about this power supply. Turns out, if you dig deeper into the forums, you'll find threads with people having issues with all the new Seasonic power supplies. Fortunately, I'm still in my return period and this power supply is going back. I've already purchased a new power supply, not a Seasonic unit. Come to think of it, I probably won't be buying anything Seasonic for awhile. It sounds like all their fame has gone to their head. Not that I buy power supplies often, and they probably don't care given all the hype over their products. Also the 24pin connector cabling could be longer. It is a bit on the short side. ... show more

  • 450 watt model: Fanless: as quiet as it gets, highest efficiency, fully modular cables
Style: PRIME Fanless PX (new) Size: 450W
I used this to replace an older X series 750 watt Seasonic power supply that began to shut down unexpectedly a few months after outliving its 7-year warranty. Until then, it had performed flawlessly for more than 7 years. After using a spare supply to run some power-intensive benchmarks, I determined that the maximum AC power draw of my system was around 160 watts, so I selected the fanless 450 watt Titanium model as my replacement. Like the old supply, this one has a fully modular wiring harness, but with the difference that all the cables are now black. While that looks nice, I found the color coding handy for identifying and orienting connectors. Other than the color change, the motherboard cable is similar looking to the old one, with individual wires protected by a fabric mesh covering, which is secured with shrink wrap tubing. However, the new peripheral power cables are made from a sort of heavy-duty black ribbon cable which I find more difficult to route through my drive bay. They are also harder to orient, since they have no color coding. But I will replace the old cable anyway in case the old SATA power connectors have become brittle. As would be expected, the new supply is somewhat more efficient than the old one due to the lower output rating (still more than 250% of maximum observed power consumption) and Titanium efficiency rating rather than Gold. Efficiency in "suspend" mode is also improved by about 10% even though USB connectors provide about 4 watts to keyboard, mouse and speaker. With the power supply switch on and the computer shut off, power draw is too low for my Kill-A-Watt (TM) meter to measure (less than 0.1 watt). Despite the absence of a cooling fan in the supply, the temperature inside is only about 3C above room temperature (as measured with an infrared thermometer -- please don't use a metal one!), while the system is drawing about 75 watts. ... show more
