I purchased this Seagate Portable 1 TB External Hard Drive for storing pictures and videos from my IPad. It worked so well that I pulled out all of my old cameras, phones, lap tops, and desktop computers and backed up all of the photos and videos on those, as well. And my Seagate still has a large amount of free space. Every device I plugged the Seagate into, immediately recognized the device and was ready to go. The file transfer speed was amazing. I am very impressed. My only concern was the included usb cable seemed a bit flimsy as far as the Micro B end that plugs into the drive. It worked fine but I was worried it was too flimsy and wouldn’t last. Easy fix, I just purchased a more solid cable. Very -.eased with this purchase. 5 stars ... show more

Up and running flawlessly in under 5 minute on an older model iMac with USB 2.0. If you're like me, it can be somewhat difficult to determine compatibility of USB 3.0 (as indicated on this Hard Drive and almost all others) with USB 2.0. Well, look no further than this review ~ you're welcome....it worked perfectly! Setup was a breeze, and a week in my auto backups are performing without issue.     • Not Exactly Compatible With Macs Out of the Box, But With Good Back-Up Speed
I bought this portable hard drive to use as back-up drive that I can store off-site, and the small size makes it especially useful for that. I chose this Seagate portable drive over the WD I also bought to use on my husband's PC becasue it explicitly said that it was Mac-compatible, while the WD said I'd have to reformat. While that's more or less true, this Seagate did not work with my Mac right out of the box. It comes in read-only format. I had to download an updated NTFS for Macs program so that I could write on it. While that solution works well, I had to research the problem on the internet since Seagate does not provide instructions on what to do. But the drive itself works flawlessly now that I have NTFS on my Mac. The write speed is fast. Because I'm not running any programs off of it and instead am using it to back-up files only, the speed is good enough for me -- it's faster than the older external drives I use for home back-ups. It comes with a USB 3.0 cable that is backward compatible with USB 2.0, so your speeds will be dependent on whether you have a 2.0 or 3.0 port and limited by the technology of both. If you need a faster connection, get a drive with a USB C or Thunderbolt connection that can connect to the appropriate port on your computer. And if you need speed, consider an SSD drive. The drive is slightly smaller than my hand -- and I don't have large hands. It is a non-powered drive -- that is, it is powered through the USB drive rather than through a wall outlet. Other than my initial frustration figuring out how to make the drive compatible with my Mac, this drive has turned out to be exactly what I wanted. -- Debbie Lee Wesselmann ... show more

    • Beautifully made hard drive, excellent portable storage!
Been using these 1 TB drives for years at this point and they don't disappoint! They look great, read and write great, are slim enough to be portable, are light, there's nothing to complain about. However one thing should be noted and this applies to all HDDs. This thing WILL BREAK if it hits a tiled floor after being dropped. I broke one of these, it still spins up but that was a hard lesson learned and will need to be repaired. So as long as the drive isn't being constantly dropped on hard surfaces and being shocked hard, it'll be fine. It can take a drop off of a table onto a wood floor and will probably be fine (but for the sake of you and your files, try not to). ... show more
