  • Massive storage for a great price!!
Capacity: 12TB Style: IronWolf Pro with Data Recovery
I took a chance with purchasing two “renewed” 12TB drives for my new NAS for about half the cost, and am soooo pleased with the hard drives; they work perfectly.

  • Great large drive
I got 2 of these to use in my Synology DS418 NAS. They've work great, and I haven't had any problems. I do notice a slight whine sometimes, which concerns me a bit, but they still seem to function fine. As with all HDDs the actual capacity is less then the advertised size; the larger the drive, the bigger the discrepancy. These are advertised as 12TB, but you'll only get 10.82TB of usable space out of them. It's disappointing to "lose" 1TB+, but par for the course. These were pricey ($400 apiece when I bought them), but since my NAS only has 4 slots, I wanted to maximize the capacity per slot, and these were the largest drives I could find at the time. ... show more

  • Silent!! so that means that is good for an HTPC.
This review is for the "Seagate 12TB IronWolf NAS SATA 6Gb/s NCQ 256MB Cache 3.5-Inch Internal Hard Drive", I ordered on prime day and received it 2 days later, I have made copies of data from one HDD to another so after a format I tried to copy the data of my old (but reliable 8TB HDD) to this one. Almost immediately I notice a clicking noise in an otherwise silent (in between clicks) of the new HDD, I re-check everything, check connections, tightened everything and the clicking stop and proceeded to copy and that is when the fun started, the copy of the files went a healthy amount of mbps to zero every so often, I did not remember having an issue like that ever before but I google possible reasons and I found a few here and there saying that I partition the drive wrong, to change the size of the sectors, that I purchased the wrong drive for my kind of use etc, so I started again, partitioned and format it and went again to copy but same thing happened so I returned and 5 days later I got a replacement which is working now with flying colors and no funky behavior. So to anybody that is having a similar issue I say.. Just return it, you have a bad drive. After the initial experience I may say that I like this drive, it is SILENT which bring assurance of no issues. I recommend it if you are in the market for one. ... show more

  • Good and reliable NAS hard drive!
Bought this 4th hard drive as part of my NAS (replacing an older WD Green drive which isn't designed for NAS). So far all my other Iron Wolf drives have been working well and reliable. I want the same consistency and reliability. Also this drive is spinning at 7200 not slow like others. Recommended drive for NAS. Red Ironwolf (no need for pro version) is all I need for my 2 NAS. ... show more

  • Great for backups
I bought this to use as a storage for home CCTV and connected via usb 3.0 to my home linux server. The parameters are as follows: Write speed (measured as writing 4*10^9 bytes of data - time sh -c 'cat /dev/zero | head -c 4000000000 > /opt/media/horace/1.raw' where /opt/media/horace is the mountpoint, disk formatted as ext4): real 0m11.115s Read speed (measured as calculating MD5 sum of that file created above - time md5sum /opt/media/horace/1.raw): real 0m15.921s For comparison, the below numbers are taken using same measurement approach for my 2.5'' Samsung EVO SSD installed on the same server: Write speed: 0m14.646s Read speed: 0m8.785s The noise level is also surprisingly low, overall, I'm satisfied with this purchase. ... show more
